Juno, Marlowe or something else?

10 weeks to go and still no closer to ‘the one’! Seem to be drawn to names ending in an O sound this time, but not certain on any. Comments/suggestions very welcome!

Juno - Love this name but the ‘Do you know’ confusion is putting me off
Marlowe - really keen on this but also worry it’s a bit masculine? We are from the Canterbury area (although not living there now)
Frieda
Greta
Iris
Heidi
Margot - this would probably be my top contender if I didn’t know 4 under the age of 3!

Boys we are probably between Otto, Milo and Kit.

Thank you!

I really don't think anyone would confuse Juno with 'do you know'. It's a lovely name!

riotlady · 04/07/2019 09:36

Love all your suggestions and they’re very similar to what we liked- we also considered Astrid, so you might like that?

I think Margot and Marlowe are my favourites though

Thank you all! Really like Cleo but my son is named Caspar and would prefer to have different initials if possible! Wasn’t sure if Greta was a bit ‘harsh’?

Glad to hear you don’t think Juno would be confusing, it’s probably top followed by Marlowe! After all the agonising it’s more than likely DS3 anyway Grin

I work in a town called Marlow so that would put me off that name 😆 Iris is lovely

Peachbubble · 04/07/2019 13:22

Love Greta, Heidi and Margot

Fatkins · 04/07/2019 14:23

I love Juno, Margot and all of your boy names. Lovely choices!

I do not like Marlowe for anyone, girl or boy. It is too close to Harlow and is also the name of a town in Berkshire. It is also a lot like Margot, so if you're put off by Margot being too popular, Marlowe really isn't too much a hop skip and a jump! If there are multiple Margots in her class, when the teacher says Marlowe it isn't going to sound all that different. Margot is so much nicer. I'd go with that. I haven't met any and I know lots of babies and young children!

Juno / d'you know... No I don't think that's going to be a huge issue. Totally fine to go with that too.

I also really love Greta, but think it may be a bit marmite. Frieda is nice too. You have great taste except Marlowe.

florascotia2 · 04/07/2019 14:34

Juno is nice, Frieda and Greta are even nicer.

As you know, Marlowe is a surname - and by far the most famous person with that surname was male, not female: Christopher 'Kit' Marlowe, dramatist and possibly government spy, stabbed to death in a mysterious tavern brawl. So it seems a very odd suggestion for a female name, unless it's one of your own family names.

breakfastpizza · 04/07/2019 14:40

Marlow without the 'e' seems to be popular with girls.

bridgetreilly · 04/07/2019 15:31

I really think Marlowe is awful.

Juno is fine and seems to fit with Caspar.

Sophronia · 04/07/2019 23:41

I’d spell Marlo this way. I also like Frida rather than Frieda. Greta is my favourite though.

Soozikinzi · 04/07/2019 23:46

My grandson is called Marlowe so I am biased but it is a lovely strong name

Ellmau · 05/07/2019 00:43

Juno's very nice. I don't like Marlowe at all for a girl.

LaMarschallin · 05/07/2019 00:50

I have come across the Juno/Do you know thing.
They shouldn't easily be confused but I've got a friend called Juno and she gets utterly fed up with the:

"What's your name?"
"Juno"
"No, I don't - why do you think I'm asking?! "
exchange.

Sorry. I think it's a lovely name.

tdam · 05/07/2019 01:36

I love Marlowe and have a friend who's used it for her daughter. I also really like it for a boy, perhaps more so. Others may see it as trendy but I think because of my friend, who's intelligent and thoughtful and not one for trends, and because of the literary references (Christopher Marlowe; Charles Marlow from The Heart of Darkness), it seems somewhat artistic and serious to me.

My absolute favourites, though, are Iris, Margot, and Juno, and I considered all three for my daughter (and very well may have used one of them if my partner hadn't vetoed them)! My pick of those 3 would depend on the day - I love them all equally.

For some reason though I do feel Margot and Iris suit Caspar and Theodore just a tad more than Juno does...

I absolutely love Kit, Milo, and Otto for boys (again, have all three on my list for if I ever have a son) but think the latter two work best with your sons' names.

Whatever you choose you've got some great options there!

AverageMummy · 06/07/2019 09:42

Juno & Heidi are both lovely & all names have some ‘imperfection’ or other. Although I detest Margo sorry

Frith2013 · 06/07/2019 17:43

All good except Marlowe which sounds a) as though it would be a boy’s name and b) is ridiculous.

Biscuitsneeded · 06/07/2019 17:47

Harlow is a pretty shitty place in Essex. I would avoid that one. With apologies to Harlow-dwellers.

Cleo, Clio, Juno, Margot, Iago, Jago, Otto, Milo, Rollo all OK.

Marlowe is a bit naff.

soundsystem · 06/07/2019 19:02

Love Otto for a boy! My son has the same name as yours but for a while Otto was top of our list. The only reason he's not an Otto is that we have a German surname and are not German so it would potentially have been a bit weird.

I really like all your girls names, I think Freida is my favourite followed by Greta. Margot is lovely but there do seem to be quite a few around.

Love Astrid as well as suggested by a PP. Violet? Hester?

CyrilSneer30 · 09/07/2019 10:27

Thanks all! I think Marlowe is out now, probably leaning towards Frieda / Greta. Love Juno but as PP has said I think the D’you know confusion will happen...doesn’t help that both my sons have started beginning every sentence with that exact phrase for some reason!

Argh girls names are hard Hmm not 100% on anything!

BarleyG · 09/07/2019 14:26

Am I the only one who reads ‘Margot’ and sees ‘Maggot’? 😣

TatianaLarina · 09/07/2019 16:14

I don’t know anyone who would pronounce ‘do you know’ as Juno. Or make lame-arsed joke about it.

Marlowe is simply copying Sienna Miller. Celeb wannabe names are to be avoided imo. Frieda and Greta are awful.

I like Juno, Iris and Milo.

Also Dido, Cosima, Cosmo, Orlando and Inigo.

AnonymousP · 09/07/2019 17:21

Frida or Greta are fab! Kahlo or Garbo as namesakes are very cool. My slight preference is for Greta’s sound but love the Frida Kahlo connection so they’re both equally amazing.
