Little girl number 2!

We are due our second daughter in the Autumn. DD1 is Sophie. I like soft, feminine sounding names and my current favourite for DD2 is Layla. I think Sophie and Layla sound lovely together. DH isn't 100% though. Any other suggestions of feminine names that go well with Sophie?
I'm sure he'd let me have Layla but really I'd like a name we both love!

If you like a soft sounding name and you have a Sophie I would look for something with the “ph” sound or “oh” sound again:

What do people think of Rosalie? Pronounced Rose-a-lee, not Roz-a-lee. And do you think most people would automatically says Roz-a-Lee?

I saw a comment elsewhere that Layla was a tarty name. Do you agree with this? :(

Sophie is a gorgeous, classic name. I'm not sure Layla is entirely in the same demographic. I think @Mollie85 has some good suggestions which go well with Sophie.

As an aside, it's funny how Sadie keeps appearing on name threads. The only Sadie I know of was in the Enid Blyton school stories, and she was insufferable until she was Taken Down A Peg Or Two

I do know a Rosalie, and it's pronounced Roz-a-lee. So you might be setting your DD2 up for a lifetime of mispronunciation. My own name is always mispronounced. I've given up bothering, but it's a bit annoying.

I don't think Layla is a tarty name at all! I think it's lovely. I also like Lara and Laura, and Rosalie has put my in mind of a relative called Annalee.

Layla is pretty but to me it isn’t quite as traditional as Sophie so sort of stands out. Rosalie is lovely and you could nn Rosie...I would never think to pronounce it Roz as in Rosamund but I guess you might have to clarify with teachers and such.

New name (from suggestions above and other recent posts) that I think we're decided on is Madeleine :)

Layla is not a tarty name, and sounds lovely next to Sophie. I dislike Rosalie - overly frilly and would only suit a few people.

Layla I don’t like if I’m honest! Madeleine I love but I’m bias as that’s my niece name. Don’t spell it that wau though as you’ll be forever correcting it

Be aware that Madeleine will DEFO - no matter how hard you try- get changed to Maddie. Every Madeleine or Maddison gets changed by everyone but their parents 😂

Maddie and Sophie go though so that’s good!

@Sunshine1239 how would you spell it? Madeline? I think that generally has a different pronunciation... Mad-e-line rather than mad-e-lyn? Is that how your niece is spelt? Does she ever have to correct how it is said?

I really like Maddie as well so not worried about that. I'm one of those people that likes shortening names so Sophie is generally Soph as well.

My niece is Madeline and it’s prounounced mad-el-in like Jasmine or Katherine - no one says those as rhyming with wine and it’s the same spelling. She’s defo never had any issues and she’s 14! She’s been a Maddie since starting school though.

If it matters I also like that it’s the different spelling to Madeleine given her names still understandably everywhere. It shouldn’t matter but I know my sister was pleased they were spelt differently
