The stress of having a noun as a surname

Does/did anyone else have this problem?
It seems to totally rule out lots of the girls names that I really love that are nouns themselves such as Autumn, Blossom, Hope as well as pretty much any flower name etc
I am very fond of some of the more traditional names like Isabelle but I wanted something a little different and the surname is stressing me out.
Anyone had this issue?

Yes!!! we have the surname Mercury (yes like Freddie Mercury) and although we are very proud of it, it made finding names very hard...we liked the name Grey...then thought Grey Mercury?! (if you are thinking "i have seen that surname before on here" i think my sister posted something about it on here a while ago,)
my advice is go with something you like as most people won't even catch on! some suggestions:
Georgia
Gia
Lara
Mila
Ada
Adeline
Tabitha

Ours is Frost, but I didn’t have the same issue as the baby names we liked weren’t nouns or adjectives.
Our baby list looked something like this:

Rory
Toby
Reuben
Theo
Milo
Archie

Thea
Bella
Harriet
Tilly

I have a DF whose DH wanted to call their son Archie.....until DF pointed out his name would be Archie Bishop.

Yes! Our surname is a type of weapon, so it makes a lot of names a complete no-go!

Pinkmouse6 · 22/06/2019 14:43

I know someone with the surname Parrot and they named their son Grey...

MrHaroldFry · 22/06/2019 14:48

Louis (pronounced Lewis) Cannon...

SassyBadger · 22/06/2019 15:03

Mercury is a great surname.

FenellaMaxwell · 23/06/2019 09:09

I know someone whose first name is Cherry. Unfortunately she married someone whose last name was Jelly.....

There’s an American Olympic swimmer called Misty Hyman.

Yep, my maiden name caused similar problems. My Mum ditched several names she loved because they were awful/hilarious with our surname. And the jokes at school were pretty tiresome too.

SnowdropFox · 23/06/2019 09:36

You can either embrace it or not I guess. I know of two (different) people whos parents have embraced it... Ocean Green and Olive Green.

Not my cup of tea personally!

Biancadelrioisback · 23/06/2019 09:53

My surname is a verb and have a different but similar problem. If someone uses my full name people often think it's a statment
"Bianca Runs"
"Oh where does she run?" "Is she doing the great North run this year?"

bookworm14 · 23/06/2019 09:55

Yes! DH’s surname, which DD has, can be read as a noun or a verb. It did reduce the number of first names we could use as so many of them sounded ridiculous!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/06/2019 09:57

Archie Bishop Grin Grin

Prettylittlelady · 23/06/2019 10:14

Well a very guilty pleasure name of mine is Dolly.....wouldn’t use it anyway as I do want a ‘proper’ name for her but would consider in a middle however not exactly possible when the surname is the general name for a winged animal!

@Ricekrispie22 I went to school with a girl named Crystal Frost. I was always so jealous of how exotic her name sounded amongst a sea of Sarah's and Louise's!
