Can you help find a boys name we will both love?

Hi, we're due our first baby in mid-August. We have agreed on a shortlist of girls names that we really love, but our boys shortlist feels like a "compromise" list. Can you help with some name suggestions that we might "love" rather than just like?

Currently our boys short list is:

Harry- Both like but not love, I prefer Harrison but DH less keen.
Max- I really like but DH less keen. I'd like it to be Maximian as a full name by DH is less keen, DH likes Maxentius but I don't. Maximus would be the compromise.
Samuel- We both like but not love
Thomas- DH's suggestion, I'm not so sure
Arthur- DH's favourite, I'm not so keen

Names I really liked but DH vetoed: Miles, Gabriel, Isaac
Names DH really liked but I vetoed: Caius, Titus, Alfred, Aurelius, Cato, Alfric
Both really like Jacob but can't use it.

If it's of any help, our agreed girls list is:

Alice (very likely would be this name if we have a girl, unless it just doesn't suit her)
Grace
Anna
Holly
Molly
Sophie

Thank you!

Your girls’ names have really thrown me! I wouldn’t have identified that the two lists had come from the same couple.

It sounds like (as a crude rule) DH likes Roman names and you prefer Biblical. How about some that cross over?

Remus
Cornelius
Darius
Felix
Lucius
Rufus
Silas
Tobias

Or as an alternative to Jacob, how about Josiah?

I like Max 👌

Recent children I’ve met whose names I have like are Roman and Mason.

I have a Tobias but we generally call him Toby. LOADS of Toby’s around at the moment so if you want individual, that name ain’t it 🤣. I think he’ll be starting Reception with at least another two boys that I know of sharing his name.

Your boy list is great but your girls names are bland in comparison.

I know a Max whose full name is Maxim.

Marbles321 · 24/06/2019 20:19

Ooh your list is very similar to ours! We went with Victor in the end - strong, Latin, classic but not overused.
Others we liked were Dominic, Marcus, Magnus, Frederick, Anton, Alexander, Patrick, Maxim.

ifuckarses · 24/06/2019 21:17

Wilfred?

funnystory · 24/06/2019 21:41

Well Felix ( as in happy / lucky )

Or just John - always a good' un - but not latin

I wish I had not saved this ( John) for DS2 as I did not have a DS2 Sad

Louie is a great boys name not too weird but not too common .

When picking a name 2 things to consider, 1. imagine your baby as an adult, how does the name feel then and 2, Does it go with your surname . Say it over and over . Congratulations on you new arrival...
