Dusty? As in dusty springfield for DD2?

It's not ridiculous but I always thought it was more of a nickname. It certainly wasn't Dusty Springfield's real name at any rate. I've only ever heard it in real life as a shortening of the boy's name Dustin.

BlueMerchant · 16/06/2019 21:32

Yes, it's too 'out there'.

Jossina · 16/06/2019 21:34

Not as a nickname for Dustin.

DM1209 · 16/06/2019 21:34

Yes. Be mindful that your child will have to live with your name choice and while Dusty could be cute for a 2 year old, the same cannot be said for a 22 year old.

BarryBarryTaylor · 16/06/2019 21:37

There is a young girl who lives near me with that name. I often bump into her dad with her at the park, I don’t know them to talk to, just to say hi, but the name definitely suits her. I’ve no idea if it’s short for anything though or just a nn...

If you like it, go for it!

GlitterPixie · 16/06/2019 21:38

It just reminds me of the first part of many drag queens names

Pipandmum · 16/06/2019 21:42

Sounds like a name for a pet to me. Her real name was Mary.

percheron67 · 16/06/2019 21:48

Couldn't be far enough "out there" for me! Poor child.

AverageMummy · 16/06/2019 21:59

Would name a cute nickname for Dorothy?

AllStar14 · 16/06/2019 22:17

A friends DD is called Dusty. I think it's nice, there's names far more "out there" than Dusty.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 16/06/2019 22:20

Does anyone remember Dusty Bin...

Is this too out there?
Ploppymoodypants · 16/06/2019 22:21

I think it’s sweet on a baby and edgy on an older teen or adult. Be great if she goes to art college or does something creative and is a beauty.
Probably not as helpful if she is a dumpy middle aged receptionist 🤷🏼‍♀️

Having said that my DD has a v ‘out there ‘ name that fits the about criteria and which I have never dared mention on here as I know it would get a pasting 😁

Tillygetsit · 16/06/2019 22:21

Dusty is a bit er well dusty. Also Busty Dusty wouldn't be much fun as a teen.

4under4our · 16/06/2019 22:28

I love it!

gigi556 · 16/06/2019 22:36

I wouldn't say it's out there. It's a nickname for Dustin. I don't particularly like nicknames without the formal version but realize loads of people do this

BlueCookieMonster · 16/06/2019 22:44

I’ve heard more out there names, by some people’s standards it’s positively tame. Go for it.

Kanga83 · 16/06/2019 23:22

First thought was Dusty Bin, sorry. My old manager went by the name dusty as a nickname and it just sounded odd , but your baby, your choice .

Astronica · 17/06/2019 06:22

I don't mind it. I prefer it over the ever-present Darcey/Darcy/Darcie.

Australian designer Leona Edmiston has a little daughter called Dusty.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/06/2019 07:01

Its the type of name where you'd have to be edgy out going and unique to suit it and carry it off well.
It'd just sound daft on someone shy and quiet, as The name would attract attention. What do you think she'll be like personality wise. What are you and dp like.

OVienna · 17/06/2019 07:02

A member of my extended family goes by this name. I am not sure what it is a nickname for but I'll find out!

Footle · 17/06/2019 07:17

It's the traditional nickname for a person with the surname Miller, because of the flour dust.

LAlady · 17/06/2019 07:21

Immediately makes me think of Dusty Bin !

beaveringaways · 17/06/2019 13:43

Like people say it's so hard to pick a name like that when you don't know what their personality is going to be like, I like the idea of Dorthy or Dorothea and had it as a NN so we have another option for more formal occasions or later in life if she'd like another choice etc

Adam Levine from maroon 5 has a daughter called Dusty Rose. Might be a bit of a celebrity baby name

BettyUnderswoob · 19/06/2019 09:44

Dusty means “covered with dust” .

Not sure why anyone would want to call their child this, unless as a NN for Dustin or something.
