Which Ros- name? (Rosaline, Rosalie etc)

Dh and I have decided on either Rosaline, Rosalie and Rosalind but are unsure on which one as both of us seem to change our minds between them each day. I think my favourite is Rosaline but I don’t know if that’s just because I’m imagining Leonardo di’caprio saying it that’ll probably change tomorrow

Rosemary? Definitely shortens to Rosie/Rose rather than Roz

Shadow1234 · 15/06/2019 23:01

Rosalie is my favourite

username1724 · 15/06/2019 23:12

Rosalie is lovely, I'd prn that as rose-a-lie rather than ros so the nn issue wouldn't be a problem?

Also love Rosetta, Rosella, Rosa

NameChange92 · 15/06/2019 23:31

Rosalie or Rosina
(Rose-a-lee/ Rose-een-a)

Both normally shortened to Rose/Rosie/Rosa

Not keen on Rosaline, and I like Rosalind but it’s normally shortened to Ros in my experience, so if you aren’t keen on that as a nn i’d probably avoid it

Bananalanacake · 15/06/2019 23:41

how weird, there's been a thread on my dd' s name and my dm's name on the same day, and they are quite unusual.

Tavannach · 16/06/2019 01:31

Rosa, then there's no problem with Roz.

Astronica · 16/06/2019 02:31

I have known many adults called Rosalind/Roslyn and they all have been called Ros/Roz, but that's an older generation. I think there is a preference for Rosie these days. I'm not a fan of any on your list, and much prefer Rosamund or Rose or Rosie.

mysteryfairy · 16/06/2019 07:11

My niece is named Rosalyn. It’s always shortened to Rosie and I don’t think it’s crossed anyone’s mind to call her Ros. It certainly seems incongruous to me! Even diminutives can be of their time e.g. Ros would be friends with Liz but these days more likely Rosie will hang out with Libby/Beth.

Fulltimemummy85 · 16/06/2019 07:17

Rosalie or just Rosie, all the others may get Roz

Greyhound22 · 16/06/2019 07:18

My Mum is Roslyn which is quite unusual (without an a in the middle). Her sister calls her Rose but most people call her Ros.

I'm of the opinion you can't engineer nicknames so she will end up being called Ros - they are all lovely names though.

bigredfolder · 16/06/2019 07:23

Rosalie. Prefer Rosa to Rosie as a NN

Have never heard anyone using the nn Roz (maybe it's a regional thing)

LadyGAgain · 16/06/2019 07:57

@Bananalanacake - I thought exactly the same thing!!!

Sooverthemill · 16/06/2019 08:00

Am deeply biased. Rosalind. Rosie as a short form. She will stop people calling her Ros if she doesn't lie it ( she might, you never know)

IHeartKingThistle · 16/06/2019 08:05

Ooh I love Rosemary.

I know a few people with the names you're talking about and they are all Roz.

Allthebears · 16/06/2019 12:11

I love Rosalita. It's the Spanish form of Rosa and means 'Rose flower'.

aliensprig · 16/06/2019 14:42

Rosalie is a beautiful name and top of my shortlist if we have a dd! @Rarathelionsaid do you have a list of middle names to accompany it? Currently torn between quite a few, all ending in -a (eg Aurelia, Aurura).

GrumpyOHara · 16/06/2019 15:37

If you want Rosie go for Rosalie. The other will get Roz

GrumpyOHara · 16/06/2019 15:38

Wait - is Rosalie pronounced Rose-a-lee? If not I expect they'll all get Roz as a nickname.

MotherofaCat · 16/06/2019 16:18

I love Rosalie and to me that seems to equate to Rosie more than Ros as a nickname.

bigredfolder · 16/06/2019 16:26

@GrumpyOHara that's how I'd pronounce it

shartsi · 16/06/2019 16:39

Just Rosa

MikeUniformMike · 16/06/2019 19:06

Rosalind

TatianaLarina · 16/06/2019 19:54

Rosalie.

Sophronia · 17/06/2019 18:17

Rosalind, but I prefer Rosamund.

DianaBlythe · 18/06/2019 09:29

Rosalie, Rosa or Rosemary would be my favourites and clearly go to Rosie.

Rosaline can definitely be Rosie if you like though. Makes me think of Romeo and Juliet. Also agree Roz is a bit of a generational thing. Roz in Line if Duty was Roseanne.

The Rozy I know is Rosalinda.
