Isn't that a band?

Awful
Religious, royal and OTT

RoseMartha · 15/06/2019 00:11

It reminds me of a ship name

BubblesBuddy · 15/06/2019 00:14

Sorry AverageMummy. Do look at this book!

There’s nothing wrong with an unusual name. It is the Queens Barge but few know that. It’s also The Faerie Queen and few know that either.

Why should possible teen jokes from boys be relevant? Who cowers beneath their alleged humour?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 15/06/2019 00:57

True Bubbles I've self-reported OP. It is as I said, a lovely name. That's all that counts.

I don't think it sounds overly religious when you actually say it. Royal overtones? Maybe, but then so is Elizabeth and no one objects to that.

RealButterOnly · 15/06/2019 01:03

I know a little Gloria and I find it difficult to say her name aloud due to all the virtue/religious connotations. It's quite over the top imo and makes me cringe a little. I'm sure I will get used to her name in time, but just so you are aware of my experience.

BubblesBuddy · 15/06/2019 08:47

I’m old enough for Gloria to have been considered a totally normal name used by normal people. Why have we changed in attitude to a word/name? Would you feel the same about Adam and Eve? Or Mary which is totally religious? Jesus is used in many Spanish speaking cultures. Honestly - use a name you like.

BillywilliamV · 15/06/2019 08:49

It’s a hell of a name to live up to..

MikeUniformMike · 15/06/2019 13:03

Awful.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 15/06/2019 13:51

awful

midsomermurderess · 15/06/2019 14:07

Ridiculous.

SilverySurfer · 15/06/2019 14:19

No, sorry.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/06/2019 14:22

I kind of love it, but it's a lot to live up to! I'm not sure it would suit a shy or awkward child.

Glory would be a cute pet name (although you can bet she'd be known as Morning Glory in her teens, so maybe not).

GlitterPixie · 15/06/2019 14:30

I quite like Gloriana but it looks weird to me with the extra n

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/06/2019 14:40

I quite like it, but it's a hell of a name to live up to!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/06/2019 14:43

Cross posted with about three other people there!

abiirthdaycake · 15/06/2019 17:41

I also heard the JTV narrator in my head! I love it actually, and weirdly I think I like Glory too

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/06/2019 17:43

Wouldn't be my choice. It means Elizabeth I to me. Can't see how anyone else could live up to that.

daisypond · 15/06/2019 18:47

Gloriana - one N. It is very regal. Might be hard to pull off. I don’t hate it though. Gloria is better.

manicinsomniac · 15/06/2019 21:16

I like the sound of it but I think it's just too much for the owner of the name to cope with - I'd feel like a constant failure if I was living an ordinary life with a name like Gloriana! And I'd feel arrogant for having the name too (even though I hadn't named myself).

sincethereis · 15/06/2019 21:38

I love it.

I do like quite long, full names though.

I love the nickname Glory. It’s beautiful

Passthecherrycoke · 15/06/2019 21:41

Really reminds me of the English name a Chinese person would give themselves - you know when it’s just different but you’re not sure why, then you realise there is no cultural appreciation of how the name sounds? That

IHeartKingThistle · 16/06/2019 07:35

I'd hate to be called that!
