I've just come across a boy with this name. Thoughts?

Would be really awkward if they ended up with a low IQ.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/06/2019 18:21

Why would you?

stiffstink · 13/06/2019 18:21

A Child Genius?!

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/06/2019 18:21

Quite.

That would be quite a name to live up to. If the child was anything other than top of the class it would be horrible. Actually, it would be a horrible name regardless of academic achievement!

Moominfan · 13/06/2019 18:28

Poor child, what are the parents like?

Sexnotgender · 13/06/2019 18:35

It’s ridiculous obviously.

ChristinaMarlowe · 13/06/2019 18:46

Clearly the parents are anything but.

BumandChips · 13/06/2019 19:19

And if he isn’t..?

Divgirl2 · 13/06/2019 20:41

I worked with a girl who had Downs Syndrome whose name was Special. She was fab but I still wonder what her parents were thinking.

Tillygetsit · 13/06/2019 22:42

Poor kid. Bet he shortens it to Gene in a heartbeat.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 13/06/2019 23:18

Poor child

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 13/06/2019 23:20

This sounds like an African virtue name to me?

Krisskrosskiss · 13/06/2019 23:26

If it's an African virtue name then it's fairly run of the mill. I used to work with a Blessings, a Joyful, a Faithfull and even a guy called Listen!

Chocmallows · 13/06/2019 23:29

Names with other meanings can cause unexpected problems. Waiting at a Dr surgery with my DD a nurse walked in and said "Chardonnay"? I seriously thought the world had flipped and I was being offered a drink and said loudly "no". Then Chardonnay's mum with her DD in hand stood up.

If she had said "Genius" to me I would wonder if it was sarcasm or some weird compliment. Imagine these poor kids every time a register is called!

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 19:29

Unpleasant post - why do people post just to sneer at other people’s families?

BarryBarryTaylor · 15/06/2019 19:35

My husband suggested Happy for our DS, I said no because I have had bouts of depression and having a name like that puts lots of pressure on the child.
The same goes for any virtue names, and names like Willow (what if you are short and plump?)
But each to their own.

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 15/06/2019 20:39

Agree @AverageMummy . Genius is a perfectly ordinary name around me. Am so urban 🤣. I know an Elvis and a Greatblessings: people names with meaning! I got a shit white name that sounded ... ok. I wanna be somebody's Greatblessings :)

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 15/06/2019 20:40

People nameD. Not names.

SemperIdem · 15/06/2019 21:31

If the child has African heritage then it would be quite a normal virtue name in many African cultures. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

Purely white British heritage and it would rather less usual.
