Do you like it? Does anyone know a Hero? I love it but it does feel like quite a bold choice!

It’s so hard though isn’t it as if she turns out to be a really striking, artsy, alternative, feisty young woman and you named her something safe and “acceptable” instead of Hero which you loved, you’d kind of be kicking yourself (and probably so would she). Equally if she was the shy and reserved studious kind, Hero would be a bit of a nightmare to live with. If only we could foresee their future personalities and name them accordingly it would be darn sight easier Grin

happyhillock · 10/06/2019 13:05

Don't like it

FizzyGreenWater · 10/06/2019 13:08

Nice, but no I would go for Hebe.

Queenoftheashes · 10/06/2019 13:09

I thought Hero was a Greek Mythology boys name. Hera is the girls name.

No. Hero is not the male counterpart of Hera. Hera is a Greek goddess, Hero was a priestess or Aphrodite.

I think it’s a fabulous name for a girl.

Queenoftheashes · 10/06/2019 13:09

Of not or

Eleanor90 · 10/06/2019 13:28

Yes I would absolutely love to be called Hero! My name is so boring.

I think it’s Ok but put off by the fact Myleene Klass used it

Astronica · 10/06/2019 13:41

Bold and interesting. The right person could carry it off. Also could be a short form for Hermione.

EuromumAussiekid · 10/06/2019 16:43

Lol my dogs name is Hero 😂😂😂

AnnaNimmity · 10/06/2019 16:50

I loved it, but exh didn't allow me to use it.

Doesn't Myleene Klass have one?

RuthW · 10/06/2019 17:02

I know one but it's too masculine for
my liking. .

FartnissEverbeans · 10/06/2019 17:44

I absolutely frigging love it. I love the Greek roots, I love the sound, I love names that end in o, I love the ‘oddness’ of it - I even love the connection to the English word.

Sadly, as this thread shows, other people aren’t so positive about it and as such I doubt I would be brave enough to use it on a child. I would LOVE this name for myself though!

EarClipper · 10/06/2019 17:58

I prefer Hera. I think Hero would be setting a person up for lots of tiresome gags about their name. 'holding out for a Hero' 'don't be a Hero' etc.

Eleanor90 · 10/06/2019 18:05

Fatniss Yes to all of that!

Not a fan

ParanoidGynodroid · 10/06/2019 19:05

Think it’s awful, sorry.

daisypond · 10/06/2019 19:09

I really like it. It’s a girl’s name. Greek myths. Hero was a priestess of Aphrodite. Leander famously swam the Hellespont for her. It’s one of the great poetic stories. But not sure I’d be brave enough to use it.

Ca55andraMortmain · 10/06/2019 19:32

I really love it but in the end I didn't use it because I felt it might be a big name to saddle someone with. I felt if DD was shy and quiet it would be hard to pull off a name like Hero. In the end we called her Juno.

Ca55andraMortmain · 10/06/2019 19:35

Meant to add - we called DD Juno and everyone thinks it's too masculine, so I dread to think what people would have said if we had used Hero. (I still love it though and would use it as a middle name if we ever had another DD)

Owlbert · 10/06/2019 21:43

I really like it!

manicinsomniac · 10/06/2019 23:53

I don't mind the sound of it but I would be so embarrassed if it was my name. I feel that way about all kinds of virtue/positive noun names. I think it's because I think people would assume that I feel that way about myself and must be arrogant. Which is ridiculous because people don't generally name themselves. But I'd still worry about it.

If you were going for the Shakespeare connection then Hero is actually a fairly ridiculous character. I've played her. She goes into a near deathlike coma at the mere suggestion that she might have had sex with a man she was not yet married to.

nancy75 · 11/06/2019 00:02

I went to school with a Japanese boy called Hero, I’ve never heard it as a girls name

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/06/2019 00:08

We used it for DD1 middle name. I love that as she never needs to tell anyone but her proper full name is Name Hero iyswim, like Anna Hero which I think is cool. It is her secret that she is really "Name Hero" Grin

Plus the priestess was pretty cool imo.

daisypond · 11/06/2019 07:47

The Shakespeare character never occurred to me, and I know the play! I’m surprised people don’t know the Greek myth, though, or know that Hero is female. I would have assumed it was as well known as other romantic stories - like Romeo and Juliet, Heloise and Abelard, Hero and Leander, etc.

autumnkate · 11/06/2019 12:15

I LOVE it
