I met a baby Marjorie today. I'm swinging between "Oh how cute" and "Eek how old fashioned." Also Marge as a nn?! What do you think? She was a very beautiful baby.

I know an older generation Marjorie who goes by Margi (like Margot). That or Maggie is quite cute for a baby. Marge I agree ain’t great.

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2019 23:08

I like Margery a lot better and Margaret much better than either.

Ohyesiam · 06/06/2019 23:11

Since I was a small child and heard it as margarine, I’ve never liked it. And we’re talking 70 s margarine here, the stuff that was like melted plastic.

Met a super cool Jorie at a tech event a few years back - go for it!!

ConfCall · 06/06/2019 23:14

The parents could have been inspired by Game of Thrones.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2019 23:43

I've never liked that name.

Emmapeeler · 06/06/2019 23:50

I have always liked Marjorie since a French girl I knew was called that, however, it sounds better with a French accent.

Penny4Thoughts · 07/06/2019 07:38

Hope the parents aren’t on here

daisypond · 07/06/2019 08:13

I really like it

doodlejump1980 · 07/06/2019 08:14

Love it. Was my amazing Mum’s name.

RedSheep73 · 07/06/2019 08:17

Marjorie was my gran's name so that colours how I think of it...Marge is just Marge Simpson to me, ugh. Marjie or Midge?

Predestined00 · 07/06/2019 08:53

It's terrible! Anyone saying they like it is being ridiculous, I bet they wouldn't want to be called that.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/06/2019 08:55

expected to say eugh how old fashioned but actually after saying it Few times It’s quite cute

daisypond · 07/06/2019 09:03

predestined yes, I really, really like it and would be happy about being called it. If I was naming my DC now, this would be on the list. It’s an ancient traditional name that is known but not so common these days. It’s got three syllables and has a nice rhythm. It’s not cutesy but it’s feminine and rather pretty. There are other spellings of it, though, that I would consider.

Watersnail · 07/06/2019 09:36

I think Marjorie is a nice name and due a comeback. Also Marilyn, Marnie and Melanie.

bluebabydinosaur · 07/06/2019 10:13

Not keen, it sounds very old fashioned and not very pretty.

Pinkvoid · 07/06/2019 11:51

Awful. Only two I’ve ever known were my DGM’s younger sister who always went by Margie and my DGM couldn’t stand her Grin and one of my Great Grandma’s best friend’s. Both dead now, both born in the 1920s.

Not a cool name imo.

Pinkvoid · 07/06/2019 11:52

It always made me picture margarine as a child.

RuthW · 07/06/2019 12:38

Love it

ppwonar · 07/06/2019 12:45

I like Marsaili which is the Gaelic version.

daisypond · 07/06/2019 13:07

You don’t have to shorten to Marge. You can shorten to Marie - MARee works well but the other ways of saying it are good too, imo.

Quintella · 07/06/2019 13:09

Bloody AWFUL.

BlueMerchant · 07/06/2019 13:11

Just NO.

Tillygetsit · 07/06/2019 14:08

Ha ha all answers! It's not for my baby. It's a baby I met. If she's on here she wont mind. We had a chat about it actually. She told me her parents are horrified and still trying to get her to change it!

I think it's lovely!
