Probably a boring thread but which of these sounds best? I'm not sure which is the 'correct spelling'

Whatever spelling you choose, it will get misspelled a lot - Anabell, Annabel, Anabelle etc

My dd is an Annabelle! I much preferred this spelling as Annabel seems somehow unfinished...the extra 'le' also softens it. The other reason for choosing this spelling is belle means pretty in French.....I knew she'd be pretty.. and she so is 😍...so big votes for the belle spelling from me....never regretted it and dd loves it....apart from at primary when she got called 'Anna ding-dong' (cos of the bell bit!!) Annabelle has a lovely flow to it

Annabel.

Annabelle is just too fussy & frilly.

spanielove · 05/06/2019 21:39

Neither, it's a haunted dolls name! Grin

LucyFox · 05/06/2019 21:48

Annabel, unless you are French!

meuh · 05/06/2019 21:53

I prefer Annabel but would pronounce both exactly the same. ANNA-bell.

bridgetreilly · 05/06/2019 22:03

Annabel.

Annabel

I much prefer Annabel - seems more stylish and classy to me.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 06/06/2019 06:28

Annabel is classier. Annabelle is a bit like... It makes me think of a Stepford wife or something.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 06/06/2019 06:30

Annabel and Annabelle are NOT pronounced differently ! 😂

Screamingeels · 06/06/2019 06:34

Annabel comes from the French name Amabel which means loveable. Annabelle is a cut and shut made up dolly name!! But sadly now the very much more popular spelling.

tiramisu1 · 06/06/2019 06:48

Well I pronounce Annabel and Isabel with the emphasis on the first two syllables.

I pronounce Annabelle and Isabelle with the emphasis on the last syllable, the elle is emphasised.

Annabel is the British spelling traditionally whereas Annabelle is French. Personal preference - I spell it the British way
