Is Ollie too popular ?

Really love this but feel it might be too popular now (although can see why). Any other similar names?

Oliver has been THE top name for years... I find it dull and overused.

I dislike Ollie

SundayMorningSun · 01/06/2019 08:49

If you love it, use it. It's something like 2% of baby boys that are called Oliver each year.

Nice name, and popular for a reason! Congratulations!

newjobnerves · 01/06/2019 08:53

It's funny there's very few around here, don't think either of my boys have a friend called Ollie. I know it's super popular but can think of only one I actually know (who has since moved away!)

Malyshek · 01/06/2019 09:01

That really depends on how popular is "too" popular for you. If your son has several "Oliver" in his class, would that upset you ? If so, better use something else. If not, go for it !

Malyshek · 01/06/2019 09:03

I feel like Oliver is going to be like Christophe is to my generation. My workplace has maybe 30 employees and at least 4-5 Christophe in it.

Outofinspiration · 01/06/2019 09:03

Yes.

If you are worried about having a 'popular' name, then don't use Oliver/Ollie.

Outofinspiration · 01/06/2019 09:04

Oh yes, Ollie/Jack will be the Andy/Dave of the next generation of workforce for sure!

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/06/2019 09:05

Oliver is lovely. Ollie is the accepted shortening of Oliver.
It might be the most popular name but I don’t know any under age 28

giddyyup · 01/06/2019 09:07

Yes it's far too popular. I have a 6yo ds and we know 24 Olivers all man Ollie.

happyhillock · 01/06/2019 09:07

Oliver/Ollie don't like either.

WoollyMummoth · 01/06/2019 09:08

It’s a really dull unattractive name.Sorry.

Watersnail · 01/06/2019 09:21

I only know one young Oliver. It's a perfectly good name although does make me think of liver

INeedAFlerken · 01/06/2019 09:38

Wildly popular around here; has been for well over a decade!

Peachbubble · 01/06/2019 10:14

Never understood why it's so popular - makes me think of Liver too

MissHenty · 01/06/2019 10:20

I love Oliver / Ollie as a name - it’s gorgeous - only met one and my son is 4 now

Names are not as saturated as they used to be. So it won’t be the equivalent of Dave/David, which accounted for about 10% of baby boys in 80s. Only 2% called Oliver now

Nomes29 · 02/06/2019 00:33

I have an 8 year Oliver (Ollie as a nickname)
It wasn't that popular and we only know of 2 other Oliver/Ollie in his school.
It shouldn't be about if there is too many of them, it's what you want and what they look like 👌🏻

userabcname · 02/06/2019 06:25

So I'm a teacher and honestly don't come across that many Ollies or Olivers - it's nowhere near as popular as Thomas/Tom or Joseph/Joe or Henry in my area! So I'd say go for it unless you personally know tons of them.

FurrySlipperBoots · 02/06/2019 06:41

All the websites say that Oliver and Olivia are the most popular girls and boys names each and every year. I actually find that hard to believe. I babysit a lot of children and can't recall a single Oliver. I think there was one Olivia, 12 years ago when I did my childcare work experience at a nursery. Confused Maybe it depends on the demographic - my clients are nearly all (upper) middle class. Do you know other Ollie's OP?

Me too now...

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 02/06/2019 08:35

I know 3

Pinkvoid · 02/06/2019 11:12

I love Oliver but it is common. My DS did have an Ollie in his class at his old school and it was literally just Ollie which I found weird. The only Oli I knew in school was an Oliver.

omione · 02/06/2019 13:45

Its better than Haydon/Braydon/Jayden

tiramisu1 · 02/06/2019 13:59

Its better than Haydon/Braydon/Jayden

How is that comparison relevant?

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 02/06/2019 14:08

I dont think so. Even with it being the top name it's only a small % of babies being called it. I also think that when a bame gets to be the most popular people stop using it.

I dont know any Oliver's in real life that are below high school age actually
