So, 4 weeks to go and our name list isn’t getting any shorter.

Names currently in the running are
Sophie
Josie
Emmi (Emilia)
Eva/ Eve/ Evie
Bella

Ella
Amber

DH and I can’t agree on any of them.

My favourite is Ella. His is Amber problem is, we have a son called Sam.
(Sam and Ella sounds like a form of food poisoning) and Sam and Amber May be too samey!
All suggestions welcome

Autocorrect changed my post! Meant to say I like the pronunciation Jo-see, but not Jo-zee.

TatianaLarina · 01/06/2019 10:14

Yes they are all meh.

Icecreamcake86 · 01/06/2019 10:20

Emmie is lovely and very girly..i really like that

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 01/06/2019 10:26

Sam and Ella lol I used to pronounce it like this as a kid!!Grin
Amber is lovely though!

GlamGiraffe · 01/06/2019 10:26

Amber for me. It wouldn't cross my mind that they were same. To me they're not.
Emilia is also pretty but rather popular.
Do you especially like short names?

Chachaslider · 01/06/2019 10:28

How about Ava?
Or I really like Amber out of those.

eBae · 01/06/2019 10:33

Oooh, I like Ember!

What about Belle? Just chucking around names that have similar sounds to Amber and Ella.

Proseccofuelled · 01/06/2019 10:33

Eva reminds me of Hitler sorry
Sophie is lovely

eBae · 01/06/2019 10:36

Eleni (pronounced Ell-enny)?

Marinkazurie · 01/06/2019 10:40

I love Sophie & Josie with Sam

Sagradafamiliar · 01/06/2019 11:16

Elle is beautiful and close enough to Ella although more 'grown up' and sophisticated.

anothernotherone · 01/06/2019 11:44

I know Ella is a name in its own right, but to me it always just sounds like a pronoun, the least though you could put into naming your female child is to call them Elle or Ella - "she" in French or Spanish...

Also of course Sam n Ella will blight them for a few years, though not once they're together less...

Anything else is probably ok, Josie is sweet but why not use the whole name - the same for Bella, if you called her Arabella or Isabella she'd have choices if there are 3 Bellas in the class/ team/ office...

Elka is a cool name (though technically also a pet form I think, but as that doesn't bother you - it sounds less cutesy and meh without losing the short and sweet practicality).

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 01/06/2019 11:58

Sophie - lovely, classic
Josie - ok
Emmi (Emilia) - no. I like Emma. So many Amelias, Emilias, Emilys and Amelies.
Eva/ Eve/ Evie - overused
Bella - ok
Ella - ok but not with Sam
Amber - ok but maybe not with Sam

In your position I'd probably go with Bella.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 01/06/2019 12:56

Lara? Phoebe?

justilou1 · 01/06/2019 13:02

My daughter (Sophie) goes to an all girl’s school and if you wanted to get trampled to death, you could call any one of those names except for Josie. (Charlotte and Olivia would bring mass stampede too.)

justilou1 · 01/06/2019 13:02

Ooooh, and Lily as well.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 01/06/2019 13:47

I like Amber and think it’s fine with Sam.

Josie/Josephine is growing in popularity as the “granny” names come back into fashion.

bumblenbean · 01/06/2019 13:55

I’m biased but i like Sophie and Emily/Emilie as they are my and DD’s names Grin classic names are often lambasted as being overused and boring but they are popular for a reason.

I like Amber and Josie too. Or how about Joss?

Cora? Clara? Belle?

OhhMyLittleGirls · 01/06/2019 14:01

My favourite is Bella, but I have a daughter called Bella so I'm probably biased! lovely name and we get a lot of compliments on it!
Amber to me is a bit dated, Eva and Evie are both very lovely, how about Ava? Sophie is lovely as well :)

Emmapeeler · 01/06/2019 14:05

I really don’t like Emmi, and I should know Grin

I like Evie but I prefer Belle or Bel to Bella.

Ella and Sophie are my favourite.

I have a friend called Josie/Josephine. It’s quite cool and retro imo but I personally prefer the others.

BesselVanDerKolk · 01/06/2019 14:13

Love Josie. It was on my list. Pretty and quite unusual these days, without being "out there".

BedraggledBlitz · 01/06/2019 14:22

Josie is a great name
