Is Sienna going to date?

We love the name Sienna but worried it will date? Should we be worried it's too popular as well? Or just not care?

Our/my Wink shortlist of names so far;
Sienna
Anastasia
Liberty (my husband doesn't like it)
India
Lucia

Please help! Any other suggestions would be great.

tiramisu1 Any suggestions? I am always confused when people talk about timeless classics Confused

GraceMarks · 29/05/2019 20:47

It's quite redolent of the boho Primrose Hill set in the early 00s, but I quite like it, and being associated with Sienna Miller can't be such a bad thing. She's stunning!

Pinkflowersx · 29/05/2019 22:30

I'm pleased the feedback has been quite positive. No one has said they hate the name.

I think it will date, yes. I think it reached a popularity due to Sienna Miller in the mid-noughties and it's probably reached its peak of popularity. Although pretty, I do think it is/was "of the moment" in particular.

Lucia would be my fave but then you'll have the confusion over whether it's pronounced "LOOSEEA" or LOOCHEEA". Same TBH with Anastasia - is it "ANNA-STAY-SEEAH" or ANNA-STARS-EEAH? Or even ANNASTAY/R-SHHEAH"? Too many variables!

So that probably leaves India Smile

BeckyAnnLeeman · 29/05/2019 22:40

I mean, yeah it probably will but so what! I'm struggling to think of a girls' name that doesn't date.

tresbe · 29/05/2019 22:43

tiramisu1** what are some examples?

CoastalWave · 29/05/2019 22:44

The Siena's I know are all about 10/11. I think it's a lovely name.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 29/05/2019 22:47

Lucia and Anastasia are both gorgeous names that I don’t think will date. The others will probably date, if they haven’t already.

Brogeliodelavega · 29/05/2019 22:57

I have a Sienna. I didn’t realise it was as popular as it seems to be! Although it isn’t top 20 from what I can see and my other favoured names were Isla and Mia which are much more popular.

At the end of the day it’s a pretty name and you like it so who cares? Picking a more unusual name you like less seems silly.

PodgeBod · 29/05/2019 23:00

I know lots of Siennas under 5 but it is a gorgeous name, if you love it you should go for it.

BeckyAnnLeeman · 29/05/2019 23:02

I think beautiful young starlets often make names popular.

Sienna Miller
Sharon Tate
Jacqueline Bisset

I'm trying to think who today's equivalent might be.

BeckyAnnLeeman · 29/05/2019 23:05

I think the Tracy trend was initially sparked by Grace Kelly's character in High Society.

Astronica · 30/05/2019 06:09

Yes. It has been top 10 for a while where I live (Australia) and is now going down, so already feels a bit dated here.

On the other hand, Anastasia, Lucia and Saskia feel timeless to me. I'm not a fan of India or Liberty. Other more timeless names: Claudia, Antonia, Lydia, Anthea, Anna.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 30/05/2019 08:46

Lucia is gorgeous.

Pinkflowersx · 30/05/2019 13:03

So is a name dated if it enters the top 10/15 all of a sudden Then drops out? But surely it can't be dated if it not that popular?
Am now so confused with what will make a name dated. Sienna was no 20 last year on the top 100 list.

goldensugar2 · 30/05/2019 13:49

Lucia is beautiful and classic.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 30/05/2019 18:56

It's not necessarily popularity that makes a name date, it can just be association with an era.

And yes Sienna does feel a bit 00s.

BelfortGabbz · 30/05/2019 20:00

Allegra also as the same vibe as Sienna but not associated with a particular decade.

tisonlymeagain · 30/05/2019 20:06

I think it's a little dated and of its time already but if you like it who cares!

helpmum2003 · 30/05/2019 20:13

I think Sienna will date but does it matter? We are all dated by our age!!

It's a pretty name which is also nice for an adult.

I think Savannah doesn't work as well for an adult...

Disappearedtothe80s · 30/05/2019 20:44

OP I think you are getting hung up of it being dated!

It probably will date but its been popular for about 10-15 years so its not like it will date to a particular year, or even decade. Sienna is not one of those really names that is extremely popular briefly then plummets. Courtney is a prime example, extremely popular in the late 90s but pretty much disappears by 2003.

Meh, if Savannah is good enough for royalty, its good enough for us plebs!

Disappearedtothe80s · 30/05/2019 20:44

really faddy names...

Astronica · 31/05/2019 02:07

A name seems to date strongly to a particular era when it rises out of nowhere, becomes quite popular for 10-20 years then drops away again. A pp has given the example of Courtney, which I think is a perfectly nice name but just tied to a particular time. This only matters if it matters to you, but you did ask and I suspect Sienna could be one of those names.

Cookit · 31/05/2019 12:55

I think it will date, yes.

Marie541 · 31/05/2019 23:45

My daughter is Sienna. She is almost 3. We are in the North West and I've only met a handful of other Sienna's so I don't find it particularly popular. Of the one's we have heard of they all seem to be young so not sure how it's 'dated' either. It's a beautiful name and people always say so (although they maybe just being kind!). Pick a name that you love and try not to get too hung up on whether its too popular or dated. Once she is here you will love it all the more as it's your beautiful girls name.
