What are people's thoughts on this for a girl's name?

how is it said? br-ear? it looks lovely written down though!

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/05/2019 21:24

I’m not sure it is a name? Are you saying it Bree-er or Bry-er?

sincethereis · 28/05/2019 21:26

How to pronounce is the problem?

Beer ? Be eh r?

Celebelly · 28/05/2019 21:26

It's an alternate form of Briar I think, as in the bush. But it just makes me think of cheese.

This was also applied as a nickname for a prickly, difficult personGrin

Canone · 28/05/2019 21:30

I like Briar or Bryher better, but it’s nice.

QueenBlueberries · 28/05/2019 21:34

no sorry it doesn't sound nice, it's very harsh. Briony, Bethan, people will struggle to pronounce her name whenever she meets them, that will be most days of her life.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 28/05/2019 21:36

Is this a name you’ve seen and heard?

Alicecooperslovechild · 28/05/2019 21:37

Makes me think of Brer Rabbit or thorn bushes - sorry. That said, it could be a cute nickname.

CallMeRachel · 28/05/2019 21:37

Its the name of a prickly bush Grin

The meaning of Brier as a name is of a prickly, difficult person.

Why would you be drawn to that name for your dd? Confused

It'll also never be spelled correctly. The I & E letters are the worst to get in the right order.

tigerseye10 · 28/05/2019 21:42

It's pronounced Br-i-er. I also think it's a little harsh sounding so wanted opinions 😊 it's French for Heather as well which has special meaning for us

How about Breagha, pronounced Bree ah? It means beautiful

pennycarbonara · 28/05/2019 21:50

That it looks like a misspelt version of Briar!

Briony is nice and more often used as a girls' name without being really common. It also sounds and looks less like Brian/Brien.

EekThreek · 28/05/2019 21:50

Makes me think of Briar Rose/sleeping beauty. I think it's pretty, but so unusual that people will either think you've made it up, or you're a fan of obscure Disney names... Grin

TheRLodger · 28/05/2019 21:52

I prefer the spelling Bryher

LouiseMiltonSpatula · 28/05/2019 22:10

I think it’s a pretty name but that’s my least favourite spelling - I much prefer Briar.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 28/05/2019 22:18

Bruyère is French for heather and it's not pronounced the way you think it is. Are you not thinking of Briar as other PPs have said?

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2019 22:19

It's very harsh sounding. I'm sorry but I don't like it at all, however it's spelled.

RitaTheBeater · 28/05/2019 22:24

it's bruyère isn't it? Like Hobby says.

I think names that people aren't quite sure of how they are pronounced can be a disadvantage.

PastaOfMuppets · 28/05/2019 22:31

If you like Heather, why not use ....... Heather?

aibutohavethisusername · 28/05/2019 22:41

I think that she would be forever getting people to spell it. Briar sounds better.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 28/05/2019 22:43

Also love Breagha and think Brier is nicer spelt Briar. But I don't like Brier/Briar.

sincethereis · 28/05/2019 22:44

Brie ?

Brielle ?

haverhill · 28/05/2019 22:49

The Latin for heather is Erica, I think.

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/05/2019 20:00

It's pronounced Br-i-er I don’t understand how to say that. It’s not the French word either. Don’t just make something up.

MikeUniformMike · 30/05/2019 08:31

Briar is much better. Bryher only if you are from or have connections there.
