If I like Roisin..

Baby due next week.. we know it's a girl.. we really like Roisin.. pronounced RO- SHEEN ( it's an Irish name).
Any ideas for something similar?
Another family member has a DD with the same name and although we don't cross paths very often, I'm still a little loathe to use it as it feels like it's been 'taken' already by them..
Thanks!

Roshan (m) / Roshani / Roshany (f) are the indian names that are similar.

Kanga83 · 28/05/2019 13:02

Saoirse, Aoife, Ciara, Sorcha, Orla?

Pemba · 28/05/2019 13:04

Rosaleen (Anglicised version I think). Rose, Rosa any Rose- name. Another lovely Irish name with the 'sh' sound is Saoirse.

Roisin and Saoirse are gorgeous names I could never use myself because of having no Irish connections.
BTW if the other little Roisin is say a cousin's child and you won't see them often, I don't think it matters?

Well that was helpful joystir.

Clubbercised · 28/05/2019 13:09

joystir

Do you mean because it's an Irish name, that is the only association you can think of?

What about Roisin Murphy?

Roisin sounds like a name from some dreadful Catholic drama about abuse

Hmm

I've asked MNHQ to remove my comment as it was uncalled for. Sorry.

HollowTalk · 28/05/2019 13:29

Roisin is actually Roseanne.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 28/05/2019 13:31

Roisin is actually Rosaleen or Rosie not Roseanne

PinkieTuscadero · 28/05/2019 13:35

The 'ín' means little as in little Rose so it's closer to Rosie than Roseanne.

BananaBooBoo · 28/05/2019 13:36

Ceoilin, pronounced Keoleen. Means a little music!

@joystir59 I think it’s admirable you owned up to that mistake

Op I had no idea it was pronounced like that - will it bother you when ignorant people (like me) get it wrong? I don’t think you should avoid using the name - ask them how they’d feel about it they’d probably be flattered

PinkieTuscadero · 28/05/2019 13:42

Yes, joystir, good for you for admitting the comment was a bit off colour Smile

There’s Róise as well- it means Rose.
