Looking for girl name ideas

So, recently went through an early miscarriage. Waiting a few weeks before trying again as per my doctor's orders. In the meantime I figured I might keep looking for baby girl names. (warning - I'm a tough customer !)

My first son is called Boris Arthur. If baby 2 is a boy he'll be Nikolas Marius. I'm stumped on girl's names though.

I'd like a name that is original but not too "out there". For instance, Thalia or is out. I also need something that can be pronounced without too much trouble in several languages. I'd like something not overused (so not Mary, for instance), and also not "typically american" as that wouldn't work in my culture /country. By that I mean no Candace, or Kayleigh, or LaRhonda, etc. Also not Riley or Winter (though I love Riley, but it wouldn't work for us).

I like classical names ; by that I mean inspired by greek/roman names, as well as scandinavian or slavic. I also like unisex names.

What I have so far :

Alix
Aurore
Sasha
Valériane
Floriane
Sandra
Ilyana
Ellinor
Danaé
Iris

I like these names but so far I haven't had an epiphany. Would welcome suggestions and opinions. Thank you for your time !

Of your names, Sasha is the one that stands out. I don't like most of them, sorry. The boys' names are fine.

missmouse101 · 26/05/2019 14:46

Damaris, Emerald, Lowenna

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 14:50

I prefer Cassandra to Sandra - I love Elinor

Malyshek · 26/05/2019 14:59

Thanks for the opinions thus far ! I know I'm not easy to please. Boy's names have always been easier for me.

I like Damaris but it's too unusual I think, she'd be forever spelling it out... Same for Lowenna. Not keen on Emerald (wouldn't be considered a name in my country, Esmeralda would but reminds me too much of "the hunchback of Notre-Dame".

I do like Saskia and Antonia. And I like Lucrezia but it wouldn't work in my country - not to mention it would make everyone think of Lucrece Borgia...
Gisèle is really, really old-fashioned in my country.
a friend/colleague really likes Apolline, in that vein I'd prefer Agrippa personally.
Ariane isn't bad but I'm not quite sold.

Just FYI, since you mentioned it in your last post, Agrippa is a male name. Agrippina is the feminine (but that could be a bit much).

CatsLikeCoffeeToo · 26/05/2019 15:33

I like Alix, Elinor (I would spell it this way or Eleanor personally), Sasha, Aurore and Iris.

How about:

Valentina
Madeleine
Natalia
Victoria
Alexandra
Lara
Aurelia
Ariana (rather than Ariane)
Selina

SundayMorningSun · 26/05/2019 15:47

Classical literature names that might work for you:

Elissa (alternative name for Dido)
Lavinia
Cynthia
Sylvia/Silvia
Corinna
Julia (after the poet Julia Balbilla)
Erinna (also a poet)
Sappho (also a poet)

Peachbubble · 26/05/2019 16:45

Nina
Lena
Diana
Helena

Kanga83 · 26/05/2019 18:21

With a Boris and a potential Nikolas, I'm assuming east European background (Russian/Ukrainian/Polish region?). For a girl I would say

Claudia,
Arabella,
Katerina,
Vivienne,
Veronica,
Lena,
Theodora,
Helena,
Marianne
Saskia

Malyshek · 26/05/2019 18:31

SundayMorningSun - you're right, I thought there was a writer called that (Agrippa d'Aubigné) but they turned out to be male.

Thanks for the other suggestions ! I'll add them to my list and narrow it down from there.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions !

CalamityJess - I didn't know the name Cyprille. I like it ! Also like Astrée, Ottoline and Phaedra. All quite original but with a classical flavour.

Kanga83 - I'm actually from western europe but I lived in Russia for several years. I like pan-european names, that work across different countries. I do like Vivienne, Saskia and Theodora.
