I’ve likes this name for a while but now I’m wondering if it’s too tricky to pronounce & it’ll be one of those names he’ll spend his life spelling out. Opinions appreciated!

I kind of like it. Not heard of it before but I can see the appeal.

Insieme · 22/05/2019 18:38

I know a grown up Jolyon and think it's a great name: different but not too unusual.

IncognitaIgnorama · 22/05/2019 18:41

He will definitely be eligible to be a High Court judge Grin

oldfatgreycat · 22/05/2019 18:42

I know one but he goes by Joe and I only found out he wasn’t Jospeh after I’d known him for a while. He’s not a toff at all.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 22/05/2019 19:08

I know one. He's a nice guy. I've known him 40 years so it doesn't sound odd to me!

BringMeTheVoiceOfAnthonyHead · 22/05/2019 20:02

It's pronounced Jol-yun

Proseccofuelled · 22/05/2019 21:24

There’s associations and associations though - this is the sort of name only a Mogg child would have - if you’re in that sort of circle then jolly on Grin

Calloway · 22/05/2019 21:27

pervy posh bloke in a too tight tweed waistcoat who tries his best to rub up against you

JaretsGirlfren · 22/05/2019 21:52

I went to school with a Jolyon, I liked him but no one else did! We pronounced it Jo-Leon. When someone asked him the correct pronunciation he replied ‘I don’t really know...’ Grin

creamcheeseandlox · 22/05/2019 21:59

I know one. It's pronounced jo-lee-on. Everyone calls him joe.

diddlediddle · 23/05/2019 03:24

Truly dreadful

Proseccofuelled · 23/05/2019 21:07

Why does it make me think hard on? ‘I’ve got a jolly on’ ? This could be just me though

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/05/2019 21:21

Sounds a bit like Jolteon the Pokemon.

schplappo · 23/05/2019 21:24

This was on my list as I really wanted a Jonty. I know both a Jolyon (always known as Jolyon) who is very posh but lovely and a Jonty. It's a great name.

WoollyMummoth · 23/05/2019 21:24

Just no

LarkDescending · 24/05/2019 18:36

I really dislike it, sorry (even though my relative wrote the Forsyte Saga!).

Too Rees-Moggish, as pp said.

PetraRabbit · 24/05/2019 19:19

I like it!

lablewhore · 24/05/2019 19:29

I know this sounds like I have made this up (I have not) , and I am hopeful he is not on MN and think I am taking the piss, but I knew a Jolyin Stiff. True. He was very charming and likeable and yes rather posh.he used to pronounce it Jolly-on but I like Jo-Leon .

NameChangedNoImagination · 24/05/2019 23:01

What about Rudyard? In the same vein but better imo. Jolyon is a bit wet.
