I like it!

Wittsendargh · 16/05/2019 22:24

My dog is called Chester Bennington 🙈

redhotchill · 16/05/2019 22:31

@noitsachicken we know! Grin

Heartofglass12345 · 16/05/2019 22:55

There's a little boy in my sons toddler group called Chester. I don't really think anything when I hear it, so although people are saying it's a dogs name etc, I don't think they would actually think that when they hear you calling him it. If you love it, use it!

FunInTheSun2019 · 16/05/2019 23:12

At all depends on your surname..I can't imagine a baby being called Chester for some reason? don't know why!
But I can imagine a little boy in private school being called Chester.

I don't think MN is ever the right place to ask on baby names! The majority always hate them for some reason!
Would you shorten it when he is born?

albus55 · 17/05/2019 09:52

I like it and can't believe the amount of people commenting 'chester drawers' - Don't listen to their opinion!

Astronica · 17/05/2019 12:06

I don't mind it, and do like that it's peppy, upbeat and unexpected. Not for me, but I'd think it cool if I met one.

Ebrill · 17/05/2019 12:08

Slept on it. Still love it Blush

MikeUniformMike · 17/05/2019 12:53

Is your surname Dawes?

teachandsleep · 17/05/2019 12:57

God noooooo

SherlockSays · 17/05/2019 13:07

I love Chester Bennington but i agree with others, it's a dogs name (my brother had a staffy called Chester)

Aquamarine1029 · 17/05/2019 13:11

Chester the Molester. Not a chance.

pilates · 17/05/2019 13:15

Awful, but nice for a dog or cat.

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/05/2019 13:22

It's ok. Not for me

There is a 2 year old Chester at playgroup but I never think his name suits him

CupOhTea · 17/05/2019 13:27

I wonder if it's a bit dependent on accent... I can imagine it being nice in an American accent, but not in some of the accents where we live (near London). Chess-tah just isn't as nice as Chess-terr. To me anyway.

Maybe worth trying it out in the accents local to you op?

DramaRamaLlama · 17/05/2019 13:31

Charlie Chester was slang for a paedophile when I was growing up so a no from me

Ebrill · 17/05/2019 15:58

So real life reactions have been a lot better than MN... i can't help but love it.. maybe I'll change my mind

OP posts:
CupOhTea · 17/05/2019 16:13

If you love it, then use it! It doesn't matter what anyone irl or on here thinks*.

People are just giving their "HONEST opinions", because you asked for them. You might not like my dcs' names if you heard them. Who really cares Smile? I certainly don't.

Unless it's something so odd / unpleasant that he will almost certainly hate having the name and having to explain it all the time. Chester is not really* out there or truly unpleasant. It just isn't everyone's cup of tea. No name is. If you want a name everyone loves, you probably won't find it!

CupOhTea · 17/05/2019 16:14

Ah silly asterix & bold fail there!

holdupthere · 17/05/2019 16:24

Anothe tone to pipe up and say Charlie Chester meant child molester where I'm from.
Chester for short. So I wouldn't personally

holdupthere · 17/05/2019 16:24

*another one

MollyHuaCha · 17/05/2019 16:28

Chester sounds like a cat or a dog (or a drawer...).

Destinationunknown1 · 17/05/2019 16:32

I really dislike it. I don't like the sound but also it's a slightly silly/caricature name.
HOWEVER it is YOUR choice. Some names I like my friends /family/ absolutely hate
You need to do what you think is best

Ebrill · 17/05/2019 17:52

There's some serious hate here! Interesting. We liked that it was an old name, not made up but not over-used. Worked for all ages. Strong, classic but not overly common.

OP posts:
CupOhTea · 17/05/2019 17:57

It's so subjective though op. You like it a lot, so who really cares what we think? I don't think it's diabolical, by any stretch. I just don't like it. It's just the sound. There is something a bit silly and cartoon-y about it to me. But it's a fairly mild dislike.
