Is Freddie and Frankie too much?

Already got Freddie, was stuck between Freddie and Frankie when choosing his name. Just found out I'm having another boy, would using both be too much? Do they sound silly together?

OP posts:

Too matchy.

ems137 · 14/05/2019 15:42

My neighbours 2 boys are Frankie and Freddie, I'd not really thought anything of it until now to be honest. I suppose it does sound a bit matchy, but who cares?! There's plenty of people who have all their kids beginning with the same letter

Lavenderblues · 14/05/2019 15:55

Yes, way too matchy. I'd avoid too 'cutesy' names ending in ie.

Corcra · 14/05/2019 15:57

What about Freddie and Frank?

LeopardPrintKnickers · 14/05/2019 15:59

Close friends of ours have Frank and Fred, and it's never occurred to me that it was too matchy - it works really well for them, and I think the names are lovely together. I'm less keen on the 'ie' on the end, so how about Freddie and Frank?

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2019 16:02

Two little fishes swimming in a tank, one named Freddie the other named Frank....

They are very matchy. But they're good names and if you love them both then I think it's fine. People will just know that you love F---ie names!

If you ever have a DD she could be Phoebe!

Ex28 · 14/05/2019 16:05

I think it’s ok actually. I like both names.

Rainandwine · 14/05/2019 17:58

As full names or nicknames?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/05/2019 18:00

Hmmm.

I have the same question, Joseph and Joel... but there’s another boy in the middle and Joseph goes by something else other than Joe 😄 just love the name Joel so much!

I think Fred & Frank go quite well OP and both are friendly names. Also for most of their life they will be out in the world without each other so I wouldn’t worry too much!

TheVanguardSix · 14/05/2019 18:05

People will mix up their names all the time. It's just too matchy. How about Freddie and Joseph?

And extra no with a side of no for Joe and Joel to the poster above. No way.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 14/05/2019 18:07

Yes and when you’re yelling them you’ll never get the right one coming!

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 14/05/2019 18:07

What about reggie, ray or Sid?

BikeRunSki · 14/05/2019 18:09

I know brothers called Freddie and Frankie , I rather like the pair of names.

ImposterSyndrome101 · 14/05/2019 18:17

My NDN has a Josh and Joel and I've five sisters, the middle four sisters initials and middle names all start with the same letter. Mine and the oldests are totally different. If you like it go for it.

Aprillygirl · 14/05/2019 18:21

Those names are what I call my feet when I'm doing puppet shoes with them for the kids. Think of that what you will lol.

Amibeingdaft81 · 14/05/2019 18:24

1970s “comedy” double act with strong undercurrent of racism and sexism

Lavenderblues · 14/05/2019 18:25

They do sound like s comedy pair!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/05/2019 18:27

My friend has Joshua and Joseph come to think of it. Hm!

Aprillygirl · 14/05/2019 18:37

They do sound like s comedy pair!

Why thank you,I do try to make my shows as humorous as possible, though not racist or sexist like the duo Amibeingdaft speaks of (never heard of them)

formerbabe · 14/05/2019 18:39

Nice names separately but together they sound like a pair or east end gangsters from the 1960s!

magicstar1 · 14/05/2019 18:51

Yep, reminds me of Ronnie and Reggie...too gangsterish

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2019 19:44

I sometimes think it seems a little lazy or lacking in thought as well when people do this.

It's like you love one name, the name DC1 has and then you're just trying to find other names that are as close to that first one as possible.

I suppose you can't help it if you just love one sound and want to replicate that for all the DC.

But it is obvious that DC1 got the first choice and any subsequent DC got a pale imitation of that first name.

PetraRabbit · 14/05/2019 20:59

Yes, too much for me. They not only start and end with the same sounds but are both very "cheeky" East End type names, so too samey. If you like the cheeky style maybe Reggie or Ronnie?

ImpossibleGirl · 14/05/2019 21:28

A practical thought is post as they get older. Anything addressed as Mr or Master F (surname) ALWAYS ends up being opened and read by the wrong one.

Bank statements, private letters, etc. The arguments, teasing and rubbish that comes with it will make your life hell.

It was bad enough for my brother and I with Miss and Mr Initial. Then my sis, who had watched and gloated that HER stuff was recognisable went and gave all 3 of her boys names with the same initial. She forgot and is now reliving that hell in triplicate...

Complainingagain · 15/05/2019 08:04

Is Freddie a nickname? Will Frankie be a nickname? If they're nicknames I think it's fine. If they're full names then too matchy
