Hera is lovely.

MaLittleBubbas · 12/05/2019 14:13

I think the name Micol is lovely (Mi-cole, like Nicole with an M). I used to know one a long time ago and I’ve always loved it, but I’m not brave enough !

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 12/05/2019 14:14

I know. Phaedra and a Nestor. Both adults mind, but still cool names nonetheless

NameChangedNoImagination · 12/05/2019 14:25

Is Phaedra FAY-druh or FIGH-druh

DD has a name of that ilk not on your list. She's 12, and likes her name and days she likes it more than would being another Alice or Charlotte.

I know (or children have been to school with) kids called Electra, Hermione, Pandora, Atalanta, Ismene and Castor.

I don't think that Hera, Phaedra, Ajax or Nestor would seem particularly odd.

I live in a university town which possibly explains the preponderance of classical names.

Peachbubble · 12/05/2019 14:35

I know an Achilles with sisters Alexandra and Athena.

Allthebears · 12/05/2019 17:43

I really love Chrysanthe (pronounced ee at the end)

FartnissEverbeans · 12/05/2019 18:17

I’ve always loved Persephone and if I ever give birth to a girl I might just fecking use it

NameChangedNoImagination · 12/05/2019 19:45

Fartniss do it! That's one of the more acceptable ones anyway and I think it's rising in popularity quite a lot. I see it mentioned here regularly.

I love Demeter, Danae and Hecate. I have a friend called Danae, it's such a pretty name.

TuppenceTwo · 12/05/2019 22:04

I remember a dog in Ruth Rendell’s Inspector Wexford book being called Clytemnestra and I thought that was an amazing but unusable name for a human!

TuppenceTwo · 12/05/2019 22:05

Thalassa, Hera, Ismene and Medea are all quite nice.

Adore Allthebears suggestion of Chrysanthe, I’ve never heard of that before!

I love Hebe myself.

Tillygetsit · 12/05/2019 23:03

I love love love Phaedra. One of the many names shot down in flames by DH.

alldressedupinblue · 13/05/2019 08:23

There is a 2 month old Antigone in my circle of friends.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 13/05/2019 08:28

Not sure on spelling, but I loved Asimina and Chrysoula. They were on my secret list when I was with my Greek ex. They might be the Greek equivalent of Brenda and Maureen for all I know, but I loved the sounds.

OohItsTheSoundOfThePolice · 13/05/2019 08:34

@ASqueakingInTheShrubbery this made me laugh. I had an Italian ex (who definitely was not a suitable father at the time) and had a secret Italian baby list 😂 Valentina and Luca!

OohItsTheSoundOfThePolice · 13/05/2019 08:35

Xanthe was on our list before we found out dc2 was a boy - love that

cuppycups · 13/05/2019 08:41

I love Electra, but wouldn't use it because of the Electra Complex.

mammmamia · 13/05/2019 08:50

I love Athena, Xanthe and Juno
No Greek connection whatsoever though.

OP some of your names while possibly lovely originally are unusable... nemesis?! Not exactly a great modern meaning and also a ride in Alton Towers Grin

SundayMorningSun · 13/05/2019 08:59

I know children called Athena, Olympia and Hector (not all the same family!). And an Danae, actually.

Personally I tend to think the girls' names are a bit more wearable, but with the downside that the mythological characters often met a sticky end...

ImportantWater · 13/05/2019 09:06

I have always loved Psyche but wouldn’t use it as too close to Psycho.

DailyFailAreTwats · 13/05/2019 09:37

I know a lovely little Nemesis!

MypetPorghasdied · 13/05/2019 09:50

My DD's second name is Elysia from the greek word elysium (ie as in fields) which means peaceful or blissful or restful. It suited her perfectly as she rarely cried and slept through the night from 6 weeks. She even had quiet tantrums when a toddler so her name did and even now suits her perfectly. Her first name is traditional english name chosen by DP but I do love your list and had I have had more DC's then I would have chosen a greek name again.
I would check the meanings of some of your names as some don't have good associations ie Medea who murdered her children in revenge (I think) and Hecate who is goddess of magic & the dark arts.

AlyssasBackRolls · 13/05/2019 09:52

I've always liked Electra/Elektra... Those are lovely names on your list OP.

MummyBear2352 · 13/05/2019 11:18

My daughter is named Ariadna which I adapted from Ariadne
