I would go with Martha from that list.
Rowan & Martha.

tabbiemoo · 09/05/2019 21:56

Sorry but Morwenna is awful it’s sounds like the name of an old witch.

Josephine is ok (nn Josie) but I prefer Erin from your list. Or Martha.

LatinJules · 09/05/2019 21:56

Bronwen or Josephine

NoHolidaysforyou · 09/05/2019 22:02

I like Martha, it feels different and fresh. Morwenna is ok but it makes me think Morgana (it seems like the name a villain would have in a children's story).

missmouse101 · 09/05/2019 22:09

Martha is sweet. Prefer Lowenna to Morwenna.

DramaAlpaca · 09/05/2019 22:12

I love Morwenna & Josephine. I think Morwenna goes great with Rowan, and Erin is nice too.

I find both Martha & Ellen quite dowdy & frumpy, but I accept that's probably just me.

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2019 22:12

Martha is likely to be one of many in her year.
I like Morwenna and Josephine but they're long - Mori/Wenna and Joss could be nns.

Ohyesiam · 09/05/2019 22:14

Morwenna

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2019 22:14

I like Morwenna and Josephine. Wenna or Joss as NNs?
Lowenna is very nice. There was a Rowella in Poldark, but that's too similar to Rowan.

PattyCow · 09/05/2019 22:18

Elodie? Morwenna is truly awful. Sorry.

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2019 22:37

Not Elodie please. Yet another Ellie and bound to be one of several Elodies in her peer group.

DobbysLeftSock · 09/05/2019 22:41

Josephine! So gorgeous.

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2019 22:43

Read your list (LOVE both Morwenna & Josephine) and instantly thought Anwen.

Then see a PP suggested Bronwen, very similar in feel, great minds Grin

YellowYak · 09/05/2019 23:05

Thanks for all the suggestions, I like Anwen a lot and Lowenna.

Morwenna has really divided opinion! I still love it but just can’t tell if it’s too close to Rowan.

Im not too concerned about popularity, I know in theory Martha is popular but I haven’t met a small one. Rowan was outside the top 100 when we picked it but he’s one of 2 in his class and there are several others in his school.

Elodie is a good suggestion- my ds suggested it and we considered it but discounted it in the end.

I absolutely love Morwenna, I work with a lady called Morwenna and she is the loveliest person Smile also really unusual!

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2019 23:09

How about Lowri? (low-ree)

FWIW I don’t think Rowlands and Morwenna are at all similar sounding (though complement each other beautifully). The -an and -en sounds make them distinct.

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2019 23:12

Rowlands = Rowan Hmm

Or if you want a Welsh nature name how about Eirlys (meaning snowdrop)? Myself I probably wouldn’t use that though I love it unless I had strong Welsh family ties, but you might feel different?

austenozzy · 09/05/2019 23:13

Like them both. Other Cornish names such as Lamorna and Lerryn could work. Or Kerensa?

Tillygetsit · 09/05/2019 23:16

I actually know an Ellen and Rowan sibset and it's never occurred to me that its matchy.

CrystalTits · 09/05/2019 23:17

Tamsin

I've really come to love the name Josephine.

In the impossible event of me having a little girl tomorrow, I'd call her Josephine. Beautiful full name and lovely shortenings. Smile

mathanxiety · 10/05/2019 01:31

I think Morwenna and Rowan are too close.
Same goes for Erin, Bronwen, Lowenna, Anwen, Ellen and Rowan.
It sounds as if you were taken hostage by three or four letters and can't break free.

I think Martha is a bit frumpy and Marnie is too.

Rowan and Margot
Rowan and Bryony
Rowan and Sylvie
Rowan and Eden
Rowan and Saskia
Rowan and Nancy
Rowan and Delphine
Rowan and Aven
Rowan and Evelyn
Rowan and Amber
Rowan and Maeve
Rowan and Jessamine
Rowan and Lorna

MercyBodle · 10/05/2019 02:19

I love Morwenna and think it goes perfectly next to Rowan. I really can't see any issue there. Bronwen is gorgeous too but I'm not so keen on 2 names both 2 syllables and ending in 'n' next to each other - a bit too similar to me (though not enough not to use Bronwen if you love it). Erin has the same problem. Erin and Josephine just aren't as interesting as your other names.

Tavannach · 10/05/2019 02:30

Erin
Josephine nn Josie
Eleanor
