Thanks for your help on my other thread.

I think the die part of Diana and princess of Wales has put me off!

So veering towards Tamara now. But dh is concerned it’s a bit too “posh” and “try hard”.

Though I haven’t actually met a Tamara so don’t really share his views.
Is he right?

I don’t think it’s posh at all - perhaps even veering the other way. Maybe it’s just the ones I know. But I do like it.

Not posh or try hard at all. I'm biased because it's the name of one of my closest friends, but I think it's lovely.

It's not posh just a lovely name. I know a Tamara and she's amazing so I associate it with her.

How would you pronounce Tamara?
Is it a well known name or will she have problems with people not knowing how to pronounce it etc?

@daisypond oh no! I didn’t want it to be pretentious like araminta/tarquin but don’t want it veering the other way! Should I abandon this name?

It's not my favourite, I think of it as similar to Chantelle, Thalia or Crystal which I'm really not keen on. I didn't see your other thread but it's a shame you've been put off Diana, which is lovely. I know a Diana who has never been shortened to Di, also isn't it Wonder Woman's name?

I've only ever known it pronounced ta-mah-ra but I met an American Tamara who pronounced it to rhyme with camera Hmm

I think it's a lovely name!

Massive Tamara rojo fan here. However in England I always think it works less well. I don’t think of it as posh at all.

Tamara is now definitely off the cards if likened to Chantelle/crystal!! I have no idea why my husband thought it was slightly posh! Thanks everyone.

As for Diana, I do like it, but worry it’s dated also.

Think I’m back to square 1.

Tamara van Cutsem, Tamara Drew, Tamara Ecclestone, Tamara Beckwith, Tamara Rojo. I used to work with a Tamara.
No Chantelles in that lot.

I think it’s kind of rich and naff more than posh ?? Other than the divine ms rojo who is Spanish, and so it means different things, I think that list kind of clinches it ?

I wouldn't say it's posh, quite the opposite. It's in a league with Chantelle etc., as a previous poster said.
Diana is a lovely name.
I wouldn't listen too much to what strangers on the internet say though, there will always be someone who has negative associations with a name!

The only Tamara is the wife of a good friend. She's in her early 30's, a fantastic mum and a really lovely person.
Also the George Ezra album.

Definitely wouldn't put it in the Chantelle/Crystal category Confused

How about Tara instead if you feel you can't use Tamara?

If you have been put off Diana what about Delilah or Delia?

I think Diana is sweet though & it’s worth remembering their peers will not know who Princess Diana was - I myself only found out who she was after her death as I’m younger than her sons.

The only reason I didn’t use it is because my husband kept singing “Tamara Tamara, I’ll you Tamara, you’re only a day away” at me.... I couldn’t unhear it after that.

I don't see it as posh - though I can't see any problem with a name being posh. Diana is better though, beautiful and strong and classic and not over-used. The only Diana I know (adult) has never been called anything other than Diana as far as I know.
