It’s a bit chav, but each to their own

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/05/2019 17:42

It's lovely, just like the baby.

ElphabaTheGreen · 08/05/2019 17:45

I can only assume Harry hates having a ‘proper’ name he never uses (Henry) to give his firstborn a nickname for a first name.

Also - clearly no eye on succession there. ‘King Archie’ if a terrible accident befalls the entire Cambridge family? No, no, no. I imagine our dear Queen flared her nostrils at that choice.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/05/2019 17:50

When I first heard it I was Shock but half an hour later and I’m loving it!

I’m assuming it’s officially Archie - thank god because ArchiBALD is awful. Nice that he has a popular name and many of his generation will share his name. Harrison I was confused about until I realised it’s like ‘Harry’s son’.

I think they’ll receive an equal level of ‘oh that’s unexpected!’on both sides of the pond. Which must have been hard to achieve.

I like that they broke from tradition, I like them more and more.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/05/2019 17:53

I think spencer would have been cooler, and suitably American sounding!

oohbubbles1 · 08/05/2019 17:54

I like Archie, I think its very cute (though I can't quite picture an Earl/Lord Archie..) although Harrison is a no from me...like literally Harry's son?! but as pp said, as long as they like it!

Hermagsjesty · 08/05/2019 17:55

I really love it. Archie was on our boys list.

lifeofamummy · 08/05/2019 17:57

I think it's lovely!Smile

TurquoiseAndPurple · 08/05/2019 18:00

I would have loved them to call him Spencer also. Meh.

ElphabaTheGreen · 08/05/2019 18:07

Don’t they have largely fuck-all to do with Earl Spencer anymore, though, since the funeral? If so, I can’t imagine they’d want to give Champagne Charlie the satisfaction of the name.

bridgetreilly · 08/05/2019 18:10

Not impressed by yet ANOTHER thread on this, no.

bridgetreilly · 08/05/2019 18:12

Also - clearly no eye on succession there. ‘King Archie’ if a terrible accident befalls the entire Cambridge family?

It's perfectly normal for monarchs to take a different name when they take the throne. Victoria's name was Alexandrina. Edward VII was Albert.

NameChanginator · 08/05/2019 18:45

I really care very little about royal nonsense, but props to them for going non-traditional and using the name they'll actually call him rather than the long version.

Complainingagain · 09/05/2019 06:31

It's really mediocre and boring

RhubarbIsEvil · 09/05/2019 06:43

Was anyone in the U.K. ever called Harrison before Star Wars?

Sparklysunflower · 09/05/2019 06:50

Cutesy and boring - I really dislike Archie. Archibald is worse.

Harrison meaning Harry's son is a little naff but quite sweet.

Sparklysunflower · 09/05/2019 06:51

I imagine our dear Queen flared her nostrils at that choice. Grin

escapade1234 · 09/05/2019 10:40

The Archie part is ok-ish, if not at all regal. The Harrison part is just awful. Surnames as first names is very American, I know, but over here it’s quite a low socio-economic thing to do. Riley, Madison etc I didn’t twig the Harry’s son connection at first - it makes it all the more naff. Like people who scramble their own names to create a baby name. Bit cringe. Archie Henry would have been a better way to honour Harry. I don’t mind at all using parents names as middle names (I did it!) but come on, do it properly.

foxtiger · 09/05/2019 11:19

I don't love either name, but I kind of like it that they've done their own thing and not stuck by the usual royal "rules." they've also set an interesting precedent now - if they have any more children, will they go with the same "trendy and not very royal" vibe? I'll have a tenner on Scarlett Caitlin Mountbatten-Windsor next, please.

Gosh. I just joined mumsnet today as an older auntie looking for some support and encouragement amongst my fellow women so that I can better help my about-to-birth niece. I am beyond shocked and stunned at how opening vile, judgemental and criticial so many of you are on this newest royal baby's name. I wonder how you would feel if your child's name was ripped to bits in public like this. Can't you all just be happy that mother and baby are safe and bless them in their happiness? How about you post your own children's names and see what the rest of the world has to say about your choices? Shame on you that have nothing nice to say. Perhaps it is better that, as my lovely granny used to say: if you can't say something nice, be quiet dear.

@Womble2019 Sometimes this place is amazing, sometimes I think there is a kind of mass craziness was comes over people and they forget actual people start these thread.
