Which do you prefer? Love floral names but these two are my favourite

Love them both. Can you imagine having twin girls called Poppy and Daisy?

oohbubbles1 · 06/05/2019 14:22

Poppy :)

CloserIAm2Fine · 06/05/2019 14:31

Poppy

Thanks for all your opinions, I'm aware both aren't to some people's taste but personally I love them, I didn't ask if you didn't like them Smile

Agree with the pp's that in 10-20 years time these names will be very much normal for an adult. Can you imagine a baby Sharon or Deborah now? No... but hey, they wasn't born adults!

I'm swaying more towards daisy but OH prefers Poppy, I guess we will have to see what she looks like Grin

Poppy

Poppy is 8th and Daisy 18th in most recent ONS if that has any sway?

I think I’d rather be called Poppy than Daisy. Daisy seems a bit ditsy sounding.

Starlive23 · 06/05/2019 23:26

Love both but definitely Daisy. I have a little Daisy myself and have had lots of comments on how nice a name it is!

MsTSwift · 06/05/2019 23:33

Cringey on an adult woman. What if she is a serious sort with gravitas lumbered with a girly cutesy baby name like poppy? Ok for a middle name I guess

Clownfish123 · 07/05/2019 18:50

Prefer Daisy

Marshmellowmathers · 08/05/2019 21:22

Daisy!

CoffeeRunner · 08/05/2019 21:29

Poppy.

Linny88 · 09/05/2019 21:58

I prefer the sound of Poppy especially for a baby, but I feel Daisy ages much better - I’ve known women called Daisy of all ages and have felt it suited them all (and sounds lovely)...I met an adult Poppy recently and have to say it seemed a bit too cutesy for an adult

RaffertyFair · 09/05/2019 23:23

For MsTSwift and all the others... Dr Poppy Lamberton, Dr Poppy Aldam and Dr Poppy Nash are just 3 examples of how stupid it is to suggest certain names aren't 'suitable' for grown up, responsible adults and that being called Poppy or Daisy etc. doesn't 'go' with gravitas.

Poppy prefer Iris and Rose

People don’t half talk a lot of . One of the most common names given to baby girls now isn’t going to sound right when they’re adults? That’s totally illogical.

When our kids are adults, these names will all be the norm & deemed incredibly unfashionable to the next generation who will move away from flowery botanical vowel heavy sounds & on to the next trend. No doubt we’ll be those mothers / mothers in laws saying ‘Linda? Trevor? Romantic and old fashioned....are you sure?’

Sparklysunflower · 10/05/2019 08:15

For me it's got nothing to do with whether Poppy sounds good on a child vs adult. I just find the name too cutesy and comical sounding. A bit like Poppet, Poopy etc. It also doesn't travel well into other languages.

I guess I prefer more elegant names that sound good in other languages too. But thankfully we all have different tastes Smile

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 10/05/2019 08:20

Poppy

Bumblebeesmum · 10/05/2019 08:47

Sparkly sunflower - yes that’s different though - we all have names & styles we love / hate etc.

RaffertyFair · 10/05/2019 10:35

Exactly Bumblebeesmum the issue isn't around liking or not liking a name. People don't seem to realise the sort of disservice they do to girls and women by perpetuating negative attitudes to names.

One poster opened a thread not so long agao by saying she was a feminist and so cute, flowery names were out". As, if a woman couldn't be strong and independent and a feminist with a flower name Confused.

I think some people confuse feminism with being anti feminine.

And Sparklysunflower , why have you bothered to post 3 times about how much you dislike a name on a thread that specifically says the OP likes that name in particular?

Both Daisy and Poppy are names that have been around for 100 years plus so the idea they are only suitable for 3 year olds is nonsensical.

The fact that they are curently popular means that lots of people do like them. So hardly likely to be problem for adults in the future.
