Name regret... but she's 3!

We had picked out 2 names when I was pregnant with my daughter. One of them was the name we would have used if our son was a girl, so had obviously loved the name enough. I suffered some complications after birth which resulted in me not seeing my baby for 3 days. By this point, DP had announced the name to everyone - the name we had loved for our son too. He said he was sure we would have chosen that name because she looked just like this name and it suited her perfectly.

I was happy with the name. However... I've never ever called her by her full name, always a nickname derived from the full name. And the older she gets, the less I like the full name. The nickname suits her perfectly. The full name is very frilly and feminine which isnt my daughter at all.

Also my brother calls her a horrible nickname from the full name as a joke and I hate it and feel she's now going to be picked on if people know her full name.

ARGHHHH

Juniper is different but perfectly lovely. Your brother is obviously immature and would have given a stupid nickname to any name you chose. Juno/Juniper is very cool, don't imagne she'd ever be picked on purely for this name.

When my dgs was due to start Nursery (Pre-school) his dm realised that he smply did not associate his full name as being his name as he had always been called by a diminutive. She had a quick word with his teacher at the taster session and the teacher said it wasn't a problem and she would use his nickname and this would be the name on his coat peg etc.
She had the same conversation with his Reception teacher and again the school was perfectly happy to use the name he preferred. Reports and other official letters are addressed in his full-name on the envelope, but that is it. Several of the other children in his class are known by shortened versions of their legal names especially when the first name is hyphenated or has a common nickname.
OP, I think Juniper -Willow is lovely but if you and she prefer Juno stick to it and other people will follow suit (except your DB who is being a dick).

I think Juniper Willow is a lovely name but can you drop the hyphen and just let Willow become a middle name?
Also, your brothers nn is ridiculous and also has no relevance to school because Willow is a massively popular name now so I'm sure there will be plenty of other Willows around.

It's her name now, she's bloody 3, better get on with it tbh Smile

You can put "known by" names on school and nursery forms - I've looked after many children who are only ever known by a shortened nickname (except when being told off at home I expect Grin). Even back when I was at school, I didn't know some of my peers full names for years!

I think Juniper Willow is completely fab! I also love Juno as a nn! Drop the hyphen between the two names and it's lovely. I don't think it's actually that frilly a name, it's more hipster than frilly feminine. Your brother is a twat also. Ignore him!

Bullies will find anything to tease children about so don't worry about that aspect.
