Thoughts please on Ines (rhymes with finesse) for a girl?

I’d go “Inez”instead, otherwise people will be rhyming her with “lines”.
Its traditional Spanish and pretty enough.

Lavenderblues · 01/05/2019 07:13

I prefer inès.

MercyBodle · 01/05/2019 07:19

I like Ines, and also like the Inez spelling. It seems a neat, streamlined, smart and international name to me. Popular in several European countries, but not common in the UK.

ThanksItHasPockets · 01/05/2019 07:21

You might have to correct people on pronunciation as their first guess might be to rhyme it with ‘lines’ as a pp has said. Inès is French, Inés is Spanish.

SallyWD · 01/05/2019 07:26

I really like it

Sophronia · 01/05/2019 08:03

I prefer Inez.

TheCanterburyWhales · 01/05/2019 08:06

It's Ines here in Italy, pretty uncommon and pretty old fashioned.
You'd have to be ready for:
Is it pronounced "Iness" (like here)
Or Inez?
Or Eyenes?

Calixtine · 01/05/2019 18:52

I wouldn’t want to use an accent mark in the UK, too complicated. I’m glad most like it! I love how simple and chic it feels.

Innes (pronounced more or less the same) is a popular/traditional Scottish boys name so for that reason it would be a no for me (but I live in Scotland).

Unusualllly · 06/05/2019 21:00

Innes is a traditional boy's name in Scotland.

CountFosco · 06/05/2019 21:01

I like both Ines and Innes so it's a yes from me.

Saharasunset · 06/05/2019 21:03

Yes I like it - I too prefer the Inez spelling though

DobbysLeftSock · 06/05/2019 21:05

I thought it was pronounced Inn-ez?

DobbysLeftSock · 06/05/2019 21:06

Agh posted too soon! Have I been saying it wrong the whole time?!

NeverSayFreelance · 06/05/2019 21:09

I have a friend called Inez, I think it's lovely! And she's a lovely girl.

(Friend is in her twenties, so not an outdated name either)

AudacityOfHope · 06/05/2019 21:15

I work with an Ines and an Innes.

Love it either way Smile

PetraRabbit · 06/05/2019 21:52

Ines (with or without French/Spanish accents) is a much classier spelling than Inez. I love this name.

Jamhandprints · 06/05/2019 21:57

Love it.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/05/2019 22:00

I really like it

BackforGood · 06/05/2019 22:14

It would drive me mad to have a name that people either asked how to pronounce it, or just guessed wrong each time they came across it. As well as having to ask how to spell it when you gave your name to someone. It's bad enough having a name you have to spell each time you give it.

So, I wouldn't use it.

Thertruthisoutwhere · 06/05/2019 22:15

Lovlely name!

Calixtine · 06/05/2019 22:17

I like the “Inez” pronunciation too, but less so that spelling, which looks a bit harsh to me.

I am aware of the entirely separate boy’s name Innes (also lovely) but not bothered by it at all. Ada/Adam, Lucia/Luca, Romy/Remy... there are loads of pairs like this.

Cross between COOL and NUN for me here in Ireland.
Considered it but the spelling and pronunciation issues upthread put me off.

Laquila · 06/05/2019 22:20

It would have been in my top three for a girl, along with Merryn. I’d probably have spelt it Ines.

Calixtine · 06/05/2019 22:40

Merryn is lovely too, Laquila.
