Our baby girl was born on Monday and we're still struggling to find a name.

What does everyone think of Harper or Poppy?

Thank you!

I much prefer Poppy

Chocmallows · 01/05/2019 22:55

Harper is more like a surname and American and Poppy very popular, but pretty.

Pippa, Leila, Heidi, Daisy - short names with a similar feel?

Howtotrainyourhamster · 01/05/2019 22:56

Poppy is nicer imo
Harper sounds like trying to be literary, but actually choosing such an obvious literary name that it has the reverse effect.

Butterfly84 · 01/05/2019 23:00

Congrats OP.

Poppy is awful. So wet fish. And close to poopy.

Harper and Piper are nice. I prefer Piper.

girlsname · 02/05/2019 01:06

Thanks all! I think everyones comments on Harper are probably enough to put me off :)

Leila is nice but we already have a Lila (lie-la)!

I'm really keen on Piper. The only reason I has dismissed it before was that someone told me it meant something rude in French??!

Maybe start a thread :is Piper a Dyce stuff in French?? I haven't heard it and unless you have French family (and it is actually a rude word), how frequently would that be a problem?

MerryMarigold · 02/05/2019 02:01

Dyce stuff =rude word

Greeborising · 02/05/2019 02:09

Piper is a very excellent name 😁

ABitOTT · 03/05/2019 13:15

Piper is a great name!

fudgesmummy · 03/05/2019 21:32

Love the name Poppy, would have been on our list but doesn’t go with out surname ☹️
But, love, love, love the name Harper!
I feel a little sad that I will never have a Harper! 🙂

StayingWithAuntySue · 03/05/2019 21:46

Piper is great

hewontstopshitting · 03/05/2019 21:46

I prefer poppy to all of the names you like

Lucked · 03/05/2019 21:54

I like them both. I prefer Harper but I am put off it by the Beckhams.

Hadley
Avery
Everly
Ripley ( I am a big Aliens fan but get that that would put people off)

MumUnderTheMoon · 03/05/2019 22:11

Poppy is lovely as is Piper though I would have thought that as American as Harper. Wouldn't be worried about that myself though. Other than that what about Phoebe, Daisy, Tessa or Bronte

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 03/05/2019 22:16

Piper

girlsname · 04/05/2019 02:03

Piper seems far more popular than I thought it would be! I was expecting people to say it was tacky/American sounding, which never seems popular on here!

Tavannach · 04/05/2019 02:19

Piper is fine.

Isabella
Astrid
Esmé

Mollie85 · 04/05/2019 11:47

Piper I was once told meant bj in French.

I seriously don’t think I’d let that put me off. You can’t discount slang in every language can you?

Of all the names you like, OP- which name could you, as an adult, imagine being called? Grin when you decide that, that’s prob the name.

Congrats on your lovely little family Flowers
