I love this name, but have started hearing it around a little bit. Do we think it could end up being the new Ava/Isla etc?

I’m a teacher and really do not want a top 10 baby name for upcoming DD. (We have a Niamh already 😍)

Great Russian name, are you Russian?

Falafel19 · 29/04/2019 23:42

It's not Russian? It's Irish. It's lovely, easy to say and spell, all good!

Corcra · 29/04/2019 23:44

I love that name. I don’t think it will become so popular it’s in the top 10.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 29/04/2019 23:45

Orla isn’t russianGrin. It’s irish! Are you think of Ola? @areyoukiddingme

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 29/04/2019 23:47

Russian 😂😂😂😂

It’s lovely OP.

Do you have Irish connections? I only ask because with a Niamh already you’ll get asked that A LOT!

mineallmine · 29/04/2019 23:55

I love it too and it goes nicely with Niamh. I'm assuming you're Irish?

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2019 23:57

Russian? Maybe pp was thinking of Olga.

Anyway, Orla is gorgeous & of course goes beautifully with Niamh.

BattenburgIsland · 30/04/2019 00:03

I think its lovely

Fantasisa · 30/04/2019 00:06

Gorgeous

What about the similar but different Ornella ?

HeddaGarbled · 30/04/2019 00:09

Derry Girls is probably reviving it a bit, but it’s a fairly niche show so I don’t think it will go the full Elsa.

Bumblebeesmum · 30/04/2019 00:24

Love Orla & don’t think it’ll become a number 1 but even if it did it’s still lovely

Peachbubble · 30/04/2019 05:38

I know quite a few now, so yes it may well become the next Eva/Ava

User24689 · 30/04/2019 05:56

Quite like it - although here in the south east I know more Orlas than I know isla's!

SnowsInWater · 30/04/2019 05:59

Love it (and it's nice and easy to say and spell).

Savoretti · 30/04/2019 06:01

Very popular here

It’s lovely.

MindyStClaire · 30/04/2019 06:42

I love it. But where are you based? In lots of English accents it would be Aw-la or Or-ler, both of which would annoy me (might not annoy you though).

TheBulb · 30/04/2019 06:48

It’s a nice name, but I agree with a pp that it sounds awful pronounced by non-rhotic English accents. I ruled it out because of living in England, and then DS was DS anyway.

Disneymum1993 · 30/04/2019 06:55

My oldest who is 5 is orlaith and i love this spelling.most other orlaiths we know spell it orla so its still different

Pops1985 · 30/04/2019 07:08

I love it but know 2 born this year in my wider friendship circle. Had to scratch it off the list for baby girl #2 for that reason.

pilates · 30/04/2019 07:16

Lovely 💕

aliceelizaloves · 30/04/2019 07:22

It's certainly becoming more mainstream. I would previously have presumed some Irish heritage but I know 3 under 2 and the parents don't have any. I think it's the kind of name which sounds nicer with an Irish accent.

LAlady · 30/04/2019 07:27

It's a beautiful name. Fairly popular - I know two Orla's both from Irish backgrounds.

Be prepared though - I have an Irish name (was born there), live in England and have all sorts of variations of the pronunciation.
