Middle name Thomas Arthur (not like that really matters) 😂

Really hoping for a boy because I cant find 1 girls name I like but out of the 2 above which is nicer? Thanks 😁

*not think like that

Okay well if I had to pick one I’d pick the one that’s actually a name - Curtis

MustardScreams · 25/04/2019 10:54

Kobe/Koby is a form of beef that is fattened with beer in Japan. I certainly wouldn’t name my kid that.

Curtis is fine, if a bit meh.

Flamingosnbears · 25/04/2019 10:56

Curtis very cute

somanynamess · 25/04/2019 10:57

@MustardScreams oh god I am glad I don't live in Japan 😂

What does everyone think of Theo were does that come from ?

Nixen Koby is a Polish name, derives from Jacob I believe. Coby is the English version, again, a Hebrew name derived from Jacob.

OP personally I would go with Koby, if your surname begins with a T, as i think that would sound better than Curtis.

Miljah · 25/04/2019 11:05

I much prefer Theo to Curtis or Koby.

I generally prefer DC to be given proper, full names (like Theodore) but Theo by itself, IMO does stand up alone.

While I think it's admirable that you 'weren't brought up' to associate certain names with social class, society does.

Arthur would sit next to Sophie and Charlotte at school; Koby would sit next to Chardonnay and Tyler.

mimibunz · 25/04/2019 11:08

Koby makes me think of Kobe beef. Curtis is better.

somanynamess · 25/04/2019 11:10

@Miljah Chardonnay 😂😂😂 there isn't any children with those sorts of names at out local school! I don't think iv seen any 'chavvy' looking parents or children either...

'Hey, it’s your baby, call him what you like of course, but people shouldn’t ask for opinions, and then be pissy when people give them opinions 😆'

This ^

'sorry, I didn't ask for opinions, I asked for a choice from two'

Asking for a choice between 2 is asking for opinions.

Koby is awful, sounds like something thing you'd call a pet imo. Curtis would be my choice.

QuantamBaby · 25/04/2019 12:36

Theo and Arthur are both great names.

Thomas,Tom,Tommy is an absolute classic that will suit him no matter what his age or personality.

Curtis sounds harsh and too surnamey to me and Koby is a name that should only be given to dogs...

somanynamess · 25/04/2019 13:18

@BarbadosBrenda
but out of the 2 above which is nicer?

Thats what I asked, I didn't say if you don't like either name please tell me and the reason why! There are 100's of these types of threads.

Koby is pretty normal in the US, which is why it may be seen as chavy in the UK.
Theo is a shortening of Theodore, it's originally a Greek name, gift from the god/s I think.
Popular in the US for a long time and recently much more popular in UK.

Atalune · 25/04/2019 13:29

Kuba is the diminutive of Jakob for Polish not Koby.

Kobe is a type of beef or a city name and not really a name as such. It sounds made up and so for me is screaming mega chav.

Curtis- of the two choose this one. However I like neither.

Theo is perfectly nice.

What about-

Lennon
Solomon
Charlie
Max
Felix
Fraser
Justin
Jasper

somanynamess · 25/04/2019 14:04

@Atalune I do like Charley but again, know of a lot of them were I live.

Its hard as DH is from south and I am from up north so names sound so different coming out of his mouth compared to mine! Some names I love when he says them and hate when I say them 😂

Tiramisu1 · 25/04/2019 14:08

I would pick Curtis. It sounds strong cool and much more interesting than Thomas, Theodore or Arthur. I know only one Curtis who's about 25.

TatianaLarina · 25/04/2019 14:12

A northern Koby would be sound like Corby. A London Koby would sound like Cowby. I think it probably works better in American.

Thomas, Theo and Arthur are all fine.

Miljah · 25/04/2019 15:23

Given that we all make associations with names, I guess I dislike Curtis because it is a surname, which is what Americans do, not Brits; and I associate Curtis with a local, large, troublesome gypsy clan!

Quintella · 25/04/2019 15:25

Koby is awful but I much prefer Curtis to Thomas, Arthur, or Theo.

Quintella · 25/04/2019 15:28

'guess I dislike Curtis because it is a surname, which is what Americans do, not Brits'

You're going to be shocked when you find out the fondness Brits have for names like Harrison and Ryan.

Ibizama · 25/04/2019 15:44

Both are horrid

dustarr73 · 25/04/2019 15:49

My gs is Kobi,it really suits him.So i really like it.Its easy to spell but not overly popular

RatherBeRiding · 25/04/2019 15:54

I quite like Curtis. Hate Koby

Pigsinduvets · 25/04/2019 15:56

I like both and Theo. Koby and Theo will also work for a girl.

dreichuplands · 25/04/2019 16:23

Thea is the female version of Theo, they are names with the sex built in.
