Twin names Olive and Ivy

Honest thoughts on names Olive and Ivy. Expecting twin girls at the end of June and still debating names. We like Amber and Zara as we feel they are ‘safer’ names but have always loved Olive and Ivy but not sure if too out there.

Olive and Ivy are lovely names although I'd be inclined to use them the other way round so Ivy is the eldest and Olive the youngest. That way, the 'Olly and Ivy comparisons will be fewer.

Olive and Ivy are just awful. They remind me of the short fat grannies of my childhood clothed green and beige with headscarves and those thick support tights a la Nora Batty . Cannot imagine babies with those names.

Amber and Zara so much more pretty and feminine.

I know sisters with this name combo.
Not sure I like the combination.

I think Olive and Keziah would keep the plant/nature theme but without smacking people over the head with it. And you still get that end of the alphabet vibe with the V and the Z.

Ivy and Zara would be a lovely combination. Again the V and Z sounds.

Or Zara and Vita, for a bit more pep.

I dislike Amber. It's a sort of airhead name (like Brittany) where I live.

Ivy is fine.

Olive is SO ugly.

Zara is lovely.

Amber and Zara for me.

Not keen on Olive or Ivy. Olivia sounds better, but still wouldn't be my choice.

It’s a song- but I’m not sure how many people will recognise an album track from Nick Jonas second solo album.

Olive will always be Olive from on the buses. Don't do it.

Seahorseshoe · 29/04/2019 05:32

I love both Olive and Ivy.

Connieston · 29/04/2019 05:35

Ivy is a horrible plant so I don't like the name on that basis. Olive isn't to my taste either. I prefer your safer options Grin

I love Ivy and Olive!
They fit the everyone knows them and can pronounce them but not everyone is called them box which I like.

I say go for it if you love them.

I do however love previous posters old family names of Kitty Iris and Ivy Olive they're both very cute too.
Plus I do like Amber and Zara (I don't think they're 'too safe')

tdam · 29/04/2019 06:48

Love them! I'm due in a few months and I'd be using Olive if my partner hadn't vetoed it. Sad

PCohle · 29/04/2019 10:22

I agree it sounds too much like "Holly and the Ivy".

Rosesaredead · 02/05/2019 04:25

OP - pretty sure I've already commented on this but just want to say every time I scroll down the page to check for new posts, and see the title 'Olive and Ivy', I am struck all over again by how gorgeous they sound together! So vintage and cute and lovely.

I can't warm to Olive. I like eating them but calling child after little fat green things? Mmmm.
I have an aversion to the plant Ivy, too.
Laurel & Lavender? May as well.

outvoid · 02/05/2019 11:21

Beautiful names, love them both and they sound great together.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 02/05/2019 13:04

Absolutely love Olive!
