Thoughts on Talia or Thea (Thee-ah) as a girls name. Which do you prefer? what are your thoughts on either?

Thank you Smile

I like both actually. I love Thea and we’re considering it for DC2. Some people may be put off by the fact it has become quite popular. I’m not personally.

OldAndWornOut · 19/04/2019 19:50

I love both names. Smile

Bumblebeesmum · 19/04/2019 20:02

I like both but prefer Thea either standalone or as a nickname for Theadora or Dorathea

SherlockSays · 19/04/2019 20:07

DD is Thea and we love it. Our second choice was Thalia so we obviously have very similar tastes - both are beautiful.

Roseredwine12 · 19/04/2019 20:11

Thanks ladies for the feedback! Really pleased that both names are liked and you get positive feedback for those that have chosen name for DD.
Think both are lovely, strong names

What about Thalia?

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 19/04/2019 20:14

Talia is gorgeous not so fond of Thea. I have only ever known one Talia, a friend of my teenage dc and she's a lovely girl inside and out.

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 19/04/2019 20:21

Both are lovely.

RaffertyFair · 19/04/2019 20:22

How are you pronouncing Talia?

Tail-eeah, tah-leah, ? (Both will probably be squashed to Tail-ya or Tahl-ya)

Not keen myself. But I do like Thea Smile

Roseredwine12 · 19/04/2019 20:30

I actually prefer the spelling Thalia than Talia but it seems there is a lot of confusion with the pronunciation even though it's a biblical name and pretty established

Lots of T(h)alias around our way although like it as a name. Expect Thea will go the same way but absolutely love it - had 3 boys so it’s the dog’s name. Grin

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/04/2019 20:39

I love the name T(h)alia. I have taught a fair few Thea and Theos.

SherlockSays · 19/04/2019 22:07

Must be dependent on area.. I'm in West Yorkshire I've never come across a single Thea and whenever I tell people her name they say it's 'unusual'. There isn't another in her (huge) nursery or any baby groups we've been to.

Mymycherrypie · 19/04/2019 22:11

The only issue with Talia is that a lot of people will say it differently. Ala Michelle vs Meeee-chelle. My brother has a Talia and she is either Tah-lee-ya, Tar-lee-ya or Tah-lia.

I like Thea. Athena even more.

DramaAlpaca · 19/04/2019 22:14

If you want a strong name, then Talia. Thea is the opposite of strong IMO, it's a weak, wet sort of name.

PlatypusLeague · 19/04/2019 22:14

I much prefer Talia. It's a clear sounding name.

Bumblebeesmum · 19/04/2019 22:16

Thea is stronger sounding to me than Talia. Both lovely though.

Cbeebiesrehab · 19/04/2019 22:32

My problem with Thea is some people (a lot of children) will pronounce if ‘fear’ whilst establishing their TH sound. It is a pretty name however.
My cousin is Talia and there is pronunciation discrepancies even within the family! Most of us say Tal-ia but my sister still says Tahl-ia, despite her being almost teenage age. I love the diminutive Tali.
Talia wins for me I think.

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2019 11:04

I prefer Thalia to Talia, but prefer Thea to both of them. I would choose Dorothea, personally, and have Thea as a nickname.

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 14:22

I prefer TheaSmilex

wigglybeezer · 20/04/2019 14:31

There's a beautiful dainty white daffodil called Thalia, it's my favourite. I like both but it would depend on the local accent, I'd prefer to avoid "fear". I also have a soft spot for Thallassa, from the Greek, I think it means of the sea.

Roseredwine12 · 20/04/2019 20:52

wigglybeezer ah that's great information to have! Thank you.
Think I'm veering on Thalia at the moment. So tricky! Really pleased all the feedback has been positive x

I really like both!

PBobs · 21/04/2019 15:32

I would pronounce Thea with a short e but that's because I'm Greek. Thalia and Talia are two totally different names. Thalia is an Ancient Greek name - one of the three Graces. Talia is a Hebrew name. I prefer Talia to Thea but that's probably to do with the way that Thea sounds mispronounced as Thee-a to me and actually means aunty in Greek when pronounced like that.

PBobs · 21/04/2019 15:35

If Thalia (pronounced with the Th sound st the front) is in the running that's my favourite.
