Joshua?

Any thoughts on the name Joshua? My husband really likes it, I think I do too but as a teacher have come across some boys with that name who were on the trickier side!

I know a lovely Josh. It's a great name!

Ah Footle. Get yourself a sense of humour. All teachers I know have a name or two (or three, four, five...) that they wouldn't name their child based on experience.

As a teacher I came on to say I've taught two absolutely lovely boys called Josh/Joshua over the past few years. I don't love the name but it has very positive associations for me.

I like Joshua but not keen on Josh.

Honestly? It is an extremely boring name, done to death for the past 20 odd years. My children (aged between 13-20) have had heaps of Joshuas in their years at school, I think there were three Josh's at one point in DS1's year at primary school.

That said, it is a perfectly fine name.

I work in a PRU and have never taught a Joshua!

It's not my style but it's OK, no negative associations with it, nicely traditional, maybe a little dated in that the ones I know are all in their 20s, but overall a perfectly good name.

My Middle is a Joshua. Mainly shortened to Josh or Joshie. I love it. We've not come across many others his age (3 and 1/2 Year old) And I don't regret it for a second. He was such a placid Baby compared to my first....Is a bit of a pickle now, since turning 3, but is a loveable pickle lol. Good luck!

I have an irrational aversion to it.
I suspect b/c it was extremely overused about 30 yrs ago.

All the ones I've known have been nice, calm, pleasant. Nothing wrong with the people who bear the name.

I love the name Joshua, it made it in my top 5 for my little boy but I knew he would just get called Josh all the time and felt like a great name wasted!

I have a Joshua. He's 33 and it was a very unusual name at that time. I still love it (obvs) but it's unusable today.

Why is it unusable now? Because of its popularity? It's funny, I've had a few Joshuas I have taught over the years but no young children I know nowadays are Joshuas.

It’s a gorgeous name! My grandad was a Joshua and got called Joss which I like much better than Josh.

I think it's awfully dull.
