Using Irish names if you're not Irish...Saoirse

I'm not pregnant (yet) but I have fallen in love with an Irish name...Saoirse (pronounced Seersha).

DH is as English as they come. I'm English...I do have Irish heritage but they came over to England four generations ago so it's a way back.

The pronunciation thing doesn't put me off - I strongly believe in keeping Celtic and Gaelic names alive.

But would it be weird / cultural appropriation?

I'm particularly interested in opinions from anyone Irish...would it be offensive?

I understand abirthdaycake Grin
Saoirse Ronan's accent confuses me. It sounds fake, reminds me of when Colin Farrell first became famous. He had a thick Dublin howaya accent! Listening to him now you'd know he grew up im Castleknock.
I really like the name Saoirse. Love Siofra too
I have a simple Irish name, Aisling..
I always have to spell it in Ireland. People can't accept there's no h in Aisling Grin

When i was in Manchester the receptionist called me Ass linn that made me laugh

My friend has a Saoirse & lives in Australia. Not sure how they manage that.

When I was in Australia , I worked with Donnacha & Mairead & heard so many weird & wonderful pronunciations 😂

All the other Irish names, sure, go for it. But the one name that was originally created to demonstrate Irish nationalism and a desire for freedom from British force? When the conflict is still on a knife edge? Crass in the extreme.

As an Northern Irish woman, I'd think you were either a typical Brit that didn't care or an eejit. And before I get jumped on, the OP asked. I would still think it in real life -like many others from here- even if I didn't come out and say it.
