I like Kay - very retro chic. I wouldn't spell it with an e though.

I've only come across it in a children's book about women in WWII - if it was in use for people born in the 1920s, it'll come back round soon.

Lokidokiartichoki · 16/04/2019 07:32

I quite like it. I’d use it as a shortening for Michaela/Mikayla rather than a stand alone name though.

LizzieSiddal · 16/04/2019 07:34

It’s sounds like you’ve named her after a letter of the alphabet.

So I don’t like it.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 16/04/2019 07:38

It's ok. I prefer Faye though.

Dated and dull

WhiteVixen · 16/04/2019 07:47

My cousin, in her 30s, is Kay. Personally I think it’s a bit dull. sorry cousin

I like it but if your concerned I suppose you could give her a name that starts with a "K" and use it as a nn.

florascotia2 · 16/04/2019 10:03

Traditionally, Kay was sometimes used a short form of Katherine/Kathleen etc.

If it were me, I'd use one of those names - or, as previous poster suggested, another name beginning with 'K' - with Kay as a nickname.

There was a very talented actress called Kay Kendall, if anyone remembers her.

BiggFactHunt · 16/04/2019 10:07

Kay, Jay, Dee, Elle, basically letters of the alphabet. Much nicer names out there that aren't just a sound.

BlueMerchant · 16/04/2019 10:13

Kaye/Kay is just awful. All the names you could choose it'd be madness to use Kay/Kaye. I think it's dated too.

Twisique · 16/04/2019 11:07

I like it as a short nickname for Caitlyn. Also like Fay.

PlatypusLeague · 16/04/2019 13:02

I've always found it rather frumpy TBH.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2019 13:49

I like it but spelt Kay. I know one in her 20s and she's lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 16/04/2019 13:52

I like it but spelled Kay. The 'e' on the end isn't necessary.

MrsJDornan · 16/04/2019 13:54

My first thoughts were you we're trying to write Kanye Blush

I only know of older Kay's and no Kaye's

Brightlygoingforward · 16/04/2019 22:39

At the risk of outing myself, it's my name I'm not frumpy or dated and am complimented on my unusual name. Do not spell with an e! I'm often called Kate in error. 😛. Btw! It doesn't happen after polite correction. Proud of being a Kay! We rock!

MillicentMartha · 16/04/2019 22:43

I know 2 Kays both in their 50s. But more common for people in their 60s, I think. Not sure if it’s old enough to be granny chic. Reminds me of Carol and Jenny.

RomanyQueen1 · 16/04/2019 22:45

I like it but I might be biased, not my name, but I'm in my 50's.

BackforGood · 16/04/2019 22:53

I quite like the name Kay, but it looks very odd with an e on the end

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/04/2019 22:55

No.

animaniac · 16/04/2019 23:34

I'm a Kay. Didn't realise it was hated so much 😂 I wouldnt necessarily choose it myself - it's annoying being called Kate and always having to spell it out. But I've always thought it was relatively inoffensive. Also, I'm under 40 so not so aged!

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/04/2019 23:55

My Aunty Kathleen was always Kay. My dad called her Kitty.

FelicisWolf · 16/04/2019 23:59

For all these posters saying it's dull, dated, boring and middle-aged - you know that in the next generation it will be seen as sophisticated, chic and interesting (just like all the 'granny' names are in now) Wink if you like it, go for it! There is nothing remotely offensive about it, I think it's quite nice. You know she will be the only one in her class with it at least!

PinkieTuscadero · 17/04/2019 00:51

I can see a painfully hip normcore couple calling their daughter Kaye Grin
