Only name we like for potential DS rhymes with DHs name (think Jake and Blake). Is it too weird?

yeah, silly.

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2019 13:00

No. It's cool.

mondler · 09/04/2019 13:08

Silly, no. I think it's OK if you guys are happy with it. I know a Michael who goes by Mick and his son is Nicholas who goes by Nick. My hearing isn't great and it does my head in so couldn't do it myself. Try shouting both from the top of the stairs to make sure it doesn't sound too confusing.

Not for me sorry! However I do love it when it's like Heidi and Elsie with the same ending sound if that makes sense? Biased

Don't think it's a deal breaker if that's the name you really like

ABitOTT · 09/04/2019 21:51

I have a name that sounds similar to my DS name while my DH & DD have similar sounding names. Was never our purpose but it has worked out that way. Doesn't bother any of us & we are all adults.

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2019 22:42

My name is similar in sound to one of my adult DC. It's never caused any comment.

NuffSaidSam · 09/04/2019 23:53

I think it's fine.

Is there some flexibility with one of the names so you could distinguish if necessary?

So could be Jacob as a full name, nn Jake?

PBobs · 10/04/2019 03:27

I think it's fine. My mum and dad have short names that are a perfect rhyme - just the first letter differs. Dad uses a shortened form of his name - mum only uses the long version when he's in trouble. Grin Think Len and Wren. The first syllable of my name is also a perfect rhyme to theirs. Think Len, Wren and Penny. Although I don't have a nickname so I'm never Pen. That would be weird. I actually like it. We don't all have the same surname or anything so it's quite a fun little trio of names. Not sure anyone but me has ever even noticed.

ZebraKid71 · 10/04/2019 14:41

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, siblings yes, but for a parent then no.

Ohyesiam · 10/04/2019 14:44

Ok if it’s by accident. Ewwww if you planned it to be cute.
Not very helpful I know.

Thecaravan · 10/04/2019 17:12

Thanks for the feedback. Will keep thinking and keep the fingers crossed it's a girl and then we don't have that issue! It was our top name if DD had been a boy but we didn't realise at that stage it rhymed Blush so definitely not deliberate!

No.
That's why I vetoed a choice dh made.
It rhymed with my name.
All I could think of was people asking for one of us and neither knowing who they were referring to.

pipsqueakthethird · 10/04/2019 18:18

It's really not that big of a deal. Most people won't notice and if they do it will be in passing and then they won't give it another thought. I had the same shortened name as my uncle who I spend a lot of time with and no one cares!

daisypond · 10/04/2019 19:54

It’s completely fine.

NutMeghan · 10/04/2019 21:13

I think it is perfectly fine.

I would think it a bit strange for siblings but parents and dc would be fine

Bumblebeesmum · 11/04/2019 11:18

Nah it’s ‘Daddy’ to the kid anyway so can’t see the big deal
