Two siblings with the same initial?

Just asking you guys to humour me here as I'm only four weeks pregnant so obvs no idea what we are having! We already have a daughter with a name beginning with M, DH and I were discussing potential girl names today and we both really like one that also begins with M. Is it weird to have two siblings with the same initial? It's Margaret/Maggie we are thinking of. Current daughter has similar 'old lady' name which we shorten in a similar way.

As long as they have different initials it is ok. My friends brother had same initials and surname as his father and had trouble getting credit when his dad was made bankrupt.

Never really have it much thought.
Actually my H to be and I have the same name just the make and female version!

If it's ok for Pauline Fowler 😂

My brother and all three same intinals

Hes george lawerence smith
I'm Gemma, lousia smith (not our real names)

No one really cared apart from the odd renark about oh its saves money on name labels but mum herself joked about that as she used to just get labels with G L Smith and sew them in to both sets of uniforms etc

I think you’re overthinking it. No one irl will probably even notice. And the post issue will become obsolete as most companies use online mail now so I doubt people will even get letters by the time it would apparently become a huge deal.

I share initials with both my siblings and made sure not to do so with my kids and lean towards disliking it, but I suspect if we had a better relationship then I wouldn't have thought about it. It was never really an issue either with paperwork or anything like that.

Don't do it. I have same initial as my dad and that caused enough problems.

RuthW · 08/04/2019 11:36

Having said that though it may not matter nowdays because mail is hardly ever used. The hospital did mix me up with my sister in law though as we were both RW and seeing people in the same department

I deliberately gave my children different initials because my sister, myself and my Dad all have the same initial. Post was always incorrectly opened, my Dad (half blind without his glasses) did it on a regular basis.

My friend has named her daughters with the same first letter so their wellies lined up by the door both have LA in, which is funny because they are so close in shoe size how the hell are you meant to know which child's boots are which?

Another friend has rhyming names, how on earth you know which name she when she is calling one of them from another room (think Pam and Dan but not those names) or when she is telling one of them to stop fighting with the other one who is she assigning blame to?

Just choose another name. There are thousands out there.

My husband, his 4 siblings and his mum all name names beginning with the same letter. No problem at all.

Chocolateisfab · 08/04/2019 12:27

I have 2 R names 2 J, 2 C, 2 T,!! Not intentional!!

Thanks all! Lots of food for thought! At the moment we're leaning towards Agnes/Aggie
