If Bertie is the nickname, what would the 'proper' girls / unisex name be?

Just that really! DH likes Bertie but thinks it ought to be a NN.

Thanks!

Albertina.

Lots of lovely suggestions here.

I quite like Roberta because it also gives her the option of Bobbie (which I think is super cute) as a nickname - but all of the names suggested offer some flexibility in terms of classic long names and other nickname alternatives.

Agree the most natural ones would be Alberta/Albertine/Albertina/Roberta, possibly also Liberty. Beatrix and Elizabeth are a bit more of a stretch.

Bertie is cool for a girl! I love it as a nickname.

MissMoodyMoo · 07/04/2019 18:25

Love liberty with Bertie for a cute nick name 😍😍😍

Tiramisu1 · 07/04/2019 18:34

I think Liberty will naturally shorten to Libby.

For Bertie, Alberta or Roberta work much better.

DobbysLeftSock · 07/04/2019 18:35

Think Liberty works the best, I'd just be a bit worried about how popular Bertie is as a boy's name at the moment (I know 3 under 4!) and if she'd get annoyed. I have a unisex name and got a lot of sneering "xxx is a boy's name, are you a boy?" as a kid. Which was not fun.

Albertine.... I'm in North London and know 2 Shock

I think it's a glorious name though!!!

AnotherRubberDuck · 07/04/2019 22:09

I so wanted a Liberty nn Libby or Bertie but it got rejected by everyone as it REALLY doesn't go with my last name Sad
Please choose Liberty!

Tillygetsit · 07/04/2019 22:22

I know a Roberta known as Robbie. I love the name...and the Bertie shortening.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 08/04/2019 03:10

Bertie reminds me of the character in Love.

Beatrice would be my choice.

MercyBodle · 08/04/2019 03:18

I like Albertine with nn Bertie. And I think Beatrice and Beatrix work well too.

Tavannach · 08/04/2019 03:26

Liberty would be lovely.

Bertha, Alberta/Albertine and Roberta could shorten to Bertie, but I don't like any of them, sorry.

Eustasiavye · 08/04/2019 07:40

Bertie is short for Albert.
I always think of dirty Bertie so don't like it.

GoFiguire · 08/04/2019 07:42

Balonz

Tiramisu1 · 08/04/2019 08:02

Bertie is short for Albert.

Bertie is short for any name that includes Bert: Robert, Roberta, Alberta, Albertine. It could even be short for Liberty or Beartrice.

DobbysLeftSock · 08/04/2019 10:02

A bit left field, but how about Gertrude/Gertie? Bet there wouldn't be another one in her class at school! (Also opens up Trudy as nn)

Sophronia · 08/04/2019 12:39

Bettina
Roberta
