Boys name- Arley?

What do you think about this name?
I really like it... I keep thinking no, it sounds like someone dropping the ‘H’of Harley.... or I’m naming after Muhammed Ali and that it sounds like Arlene.

These things put me off briefly but then I like the name again and keep going back to it.

What are your opinions on it? I like the sound of the old names that are making a comeback like Arthur, Albie etc but they are all too overdone so I wouldn’t use them... I found Arley on an old names list and loved it.

I don’t like it, it does sounds like someone has taken the H off of Harley.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/03/2019 18:37

No I wouldn't do it,its sounds like you've dropped the H to be honest. What about Arlo or Albie?

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/03/2019 18:37

Sorry just realised you said you didn't like albie

ArgusFilchsCat · 28/03/2019 18:38

Nope. Sounds like you can't be bothered to say Harley properly! (Like most of the people in my area 👀)

twilightcafe · 28/03/2019 18:38

👎

Sounds like you missed off the H

Thesearmsofmine · 28/03/2019 18:38

I just looked it up, it has a nice meaning. I think it could sound nice as a middle name.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 28/03/2019 18:38

It's missing a letter was my first thought.

It looks like it should read Harley, Carley or Marley. Plus wilst people will know how to pronounce it if a small child said to you their friend was called Arley you would likely think it should be one of the 3 aforementioned names so it's very unlikely it will ever be spelt correctly.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/03/2019 18:40

Sounds made up.

What about Ardal ? At least that's a name?

Widowodiw · 28/03/2019 18:42

It’s a village just outside Nuneaton

Dermymc · 28/03/2019 18:43

It's a place name.

Sounds like you concieved him in the place, or forgot the H on Harley.

TulaWula · 28/03/2019 18:47

Everybody is saying exactly what I was thinking and I know that’s how it will sound as well Sad

@sauvingnonblanketyblanc I do like Albie but it’s so overdone where I live which is a shame. I have a really common name and hate it so I always try and find slightly more unique ones.

@thesearmsofmine OH is Spanish so will be a Spanish middle name that his side of the family are choosing... otherwise I would have used as a middle name without a doubt

We have an Arlo at school who everyone calls Arley. It's lovely on him. I'd say that your way forward!

WanderingAimlessly · 28/03/2019 18:57

Arlen? Nickname Arley?

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/03/2019 18:59

Btw Alfie, Albie, Archie, Arthur have peaked and gone. (I teach pre school.)

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/03/2019 19:25

Do you like A names particularly?

TulaWula · 28/03/2019 19:37

@Jellycat1 Arlo feels like the name of the moment for me though... although I like it ... I know Arley is very similar but evidently not anywhere near as popular judging from the reactions 😂

@WanderingAimlessy I like Arlen too but it rhymes with my DS name so I think people will think I have a name theme

@SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc I didn’t think I did but this pregnancy I have liked an awful lot of them , has been lots of other names and letters but

Auden
Alvie
Archer
Arley
Audley

Have all been on my list as possibilities at one point or another so no idea where my ‘a’ obsession has arisen from... maybe hormones... or laziness... unsure which lol

Pregnancy accounts for a lot, OP. I was going to call one of my DC Emmanuel Beau Boodle while I was pg. I was glad that XH didn't let me, once the pregnancy hormones had subsided. Arley is definitely a pregnancy choice. Let it go.

BlueMerchant · 28/03/2019 19:50

I don't like it at all sorry.

Hillaria · 28/03/2019 19:50

What about Algernon, if you like 'A' names?

lablablab · 28/03/2019 19:55

My neighbours have a dgs called Harley and they shout 'Arley down the garden at him so it's a no from me... 😬

I second Arlo.

Or Aiden, Aubrey or Austin?

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/03/2019 20:02

I'll be shot down but I like the A name Ace for a boy Blush

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 28/03/2019 20:04

Really does sound like someone from South East London/North Kent saying Harley. Not good, sorry.

gingajewel · 28/03/2019 21:56

I no an arley, I think it’s a lovely name!

Cakefat · 25/02/2020 10:08

My son's name is Arley- so clearly I'm a fan. He was named after the village my nan grew up in. If he'd been a girl I'd have called him after my nan. I'm not worried about the people who feel emboldened to say how much they don't like it, who knows? I may not like their choices either Wink
