Hi I came across this name, and find it so pretty. I’m surprised it’s not more popular!

What are your thoughts about this name?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a Lilia. A beautiful blonde sporty teenager... so it has positive connotations for me. The family has an East European grandparent so I guess that's the connection. But, just my personal taste, I don't particularly like it as a name, the way it sounds in English more like Lillyuh or Lillyer. Still nicer than Lily which I'm not a fan of.

Tiramisu1 · 27/03/2019 06:22

Lovely, could be short for Liliana.

MikeUniformMike · 27/03/2019 08:24

Looks and sounds like it should be a brand of tampons.

Topofthehills · 27/03/2019 08:26

Not my personal taste, but very nice nonetheless.

blueskiesovertheforest · 27/03/2019 08:30

It looks as though it has too many vowels - Lila with a random typo... It's not that bad in the scheme of things but does look like a typo.

JumpingFrogs · 27/03/2019 09:43

It was a popular brand of sanitary towels for many years in the UK. So I can only picture that when I hear the name

Orangeslemon24 · 27/03/2019 09:59

I think it's lovely!

buzzbobbly · 27/03/2019 10:03

It does look like a typo, and the poor child will spend her life correcting people. I have a very ordinary (royal) name and am forever telling people that yes, I do actually know how to spell my own name when they try and "correct" it for me!

Lila, Liliana, Lily etc are more established similar names
Even Lili?

whitehalleve · 27/03/2019 10:05

It's quite popular where I live. I like it

Fannybaws52 · 27/03/2019 10:07

I agree that it sounds like a brand of Tampons... Confused

LailaByron · 27/03/2019 10:09

My DD has a friend called Lilia and she’s a lovely girl but gets called everything apart from ‘Lilia’ she gets Lily, Lil, Lia, Leelah...
But I guess that can happen with lots of names. If you like it, why not?! X

evaperonspoodle · 27/03/2019 10:11

We met a family on holiday who were from Morocco and their daughter was called Lilia, pronounced Leelia. It is a type of flower apparently, I think it's lovely.

Thequeenspug · 27/03/2019 10:17

whitehalleve can I ask where you live? Is the name used by British people or is it solely used by Eastern Europeans? I’m concerned British people will struggle with the name...

I prefer just Lily

SallyWD · 27/03/2019 13:41

I love it. Beautiful.

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/03/2019 19:31

I think it’s beautiful and a nice alternative to Lily. I have never heard of the tampons.

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/03/2019 19:32

Or sanitary towels, whichever they were.

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2019 19:34

It was most definitely a brand of sanitary towels back in the day, Lilia Whites they were called. So that's what I think of.

whitehalleve · 27/03/2019 21:42

@Thequeenspug I live in London (near Whitehall hence the name) Grin. The parents are English.but I do agree it sounds like an Eastern European name.

Thequeenspug · 27/03/2019 21:47

Thanks for replying.

Hmmm... mixed reviews...

I find it slightly awkward to say for some reason, but it is pretty and I don't think think you could really go wrong with it.

I slightly prefer Lilah/Lyra/Lily

EngagedAgain · 28/03/2019 07:26

I've liked the name since strictly come dancing had a Lilia on there for the first few years. Never heard of the sanitary ware only lil-ets? (Sp?) If that's the one people are referring to I never made the connection.

Whynotnowbaby · 28/03/2019 07:30

My friend has a Lilja (pronounced Lilia) for her it's an Icelandic name and I love it, it doesn’t feel at all unusual to me but I guess you get used to names you know!

JumpingFrogs · 28/03/2019 10:09

No, Lil-lets were different. Lilia was the brand of sanitary towels I used in my teens. But that was late seventies so I guess younger people would not make that link ?
It is a pretty name, and I don't know how many people would make that link, but it was the first thing I thought of I'm afraid.

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 11:01

I love the name Lilia, considering it as a middle name!
