Barbarafromblackpool · 25/03/2019 11:27

I think this is a wind up. It’s like mumsnet bingo.
Name spelt wrong.
Hyphen; with Mae no less.

Anothertempusername · 25/03/2019 11:28

Veigh is pronounced "vay". So Iveigh becomes "eye-vay".

"Eye-Vay May"

Nope. Rethink pls OP.

PlasticPatty · 25/03/2019 11:30

Ivy May Lacey Winterbottom. Or whatever. Nice. Really, it's ok. Just spell it correctly and leave out the hyphens. People will nn her 'Poison', though. That's inevitable.

PlasticPatty · 25/03/2019 11:32

Not 'I-vay'. Too much like 'Oy vey!'

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 25/03/2019 11:38

'eigh' isn't necessarily pronounced 'ay', though, is it? Leigh is pronounced Lee.

alonerinlona · 25/03/2019 11:41

"Everyone" doesn't like it, "everyone" is just being polite

Also as PP have said -eigh is not pronounced the way you would want it.

Netflixaddiction · 25/03/2019 11:49

Why ask us if you’re not looking for opinions?

I agree with everyone ivy spelt ivy.
No hyphen
Ideally no may/Mae. But May is better than Mae.

It’s your child though, and you can name her what you like regardless of your opinion.

I would try netmums though if I were you.

Netflixaddiction · 25/03/2019 11:49

*regardless of our opinions

DawgLover · 25/03/2019 12:00

If you cannot spell your own nannys name correctly, and this is a significant name for you, then chances are others will have the same trouble.

Ultimately, I'd go with whatever you like but remember that its your daughter who has to carry that name - and that particular combination isnt ideal.

Sophronia · 25/03/2019 12:05

Did your nan spell it Ivy or Iveigh?

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 25/03/2019 12:11

Ivy is a lovely name but I don't like the spelling in your OP. In Australia where I live, changing up the spellings like that is considered quite bogan.

That said, Ivy May Lacey or Ivy Mae Lacey are lovely. Hyphenated or not wouldn't bother me,

InsertFunnyUsername · 25/03/2019 12:15

If you like it, and means something to you then go for It.

Whilst i wouldn't spell the name the way you do, do you really give a toss if people think its strange/chavvy/lifetime of teasing?

81Byerley · 25/03/2019 12:17

I don't think it's kind to be rude about the OP's choice of name, but I have to say I really don't like hyphenated names. They are very common just now, and will date her as she grows up. Plus there will be loads of something-Maes in her class. I do love Ivy though. But not Iveagh, sorry. I do think it will be irritating to her when people assume it's Ivy. I'm a Grandmother, and if any of my Grandchildren are named after me, I would prefer 81Byerley, not 81Byerlee.

ArnoldBee · 25/03/2019 12:20

According to the General Register Office for England and Wales there have only been 2 Iveighs registered that would be old enough to be a grandmother. One has the middle name Grace the other Isabel - both of which are far better than Mae.

olderthanyouthink · 25/03/2019 12:50

Just looks like an ugly word to me, and Like you've tried to make a unique name by swapping letters for similar sounds badly.

Also looks like a typo of Leigh.

I say this as someone with a "misspelt" normal (though not common) name, it's a pain in the arse and I'm pretty sure it looks wrong to other people.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/03/2019 13:17

What’s your boys name?

As for Iveigh-Mae Lacey please don’t.

Chocmallows · 25/03/2019 13:29

I love Ivy or May as a first name.

Then a longer/classic middle name. Not Mae or Lacey - sorry both sound common to me.

Pythonesque · 25/03/2019 13:39

Like many above I think Ivy May Lacey works, and would also discourage the Iveigh spelling.

You can call a daughter Ivy May without it being hyphenated, and she will have the choice of what she is called by friends and teachers etc as she gets older. Schools generally include "known as" on their registration paperwork so you can specify what children are called day-to-day (eg nicknames, diminutives) when it is different to their birth certificates.

MercyBodle · 25/03/2019 13:51

Ivy May Lacey or Ivy Mae Lacey are lovely options, but Iveigh is pronounced Eyevay and just doesn't work. And 2 names with no hyphen is just much cooler and classier than a hyphen. I don't often agree with the majority on name forums but this time I do!

Shookethtothecore · 25/03/2019 13:56

All names are fine just spell them correctly,
Ivy- May

KathyS901 · 25/03/2019 13:56

This is obviously a joke post! Iveigh? Really?

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 25/03/2019 14:01

@ArnoldLee

According to the General Register Office for England and Wales there have only been 2 Iveighs registered that would be old enough to be a grandmother. One has the middle name Grace the other Isabel - both of which are far better than Mae.

How do you find this information out off the register? Keen to look for my own children's names x

KathyS901 · 25/03/2019 14:09

Just read OPs comments on another post and now think this might not be a joke? Sorry OP... Confused But please don't name your daughter Iveigh-Mae Lacey. Because 1) Iveigh is a stupid made up spelling which looks naff and will leave your daughter with a lifetime of correcting people and being irritated 2) Iveigh, as others have pointed out, isn't even pronounced like "Ivy", it's pronounced like "Eye-Vay" which isn't a name and is horrible. 3) Hyphenated names are really overdone and look (sorry to say this but) really chavvy, especially names hyphenated with "Mae".

Can't you name her Ivy May, which is much nicer and classier and just 1000x better in every way than Iveigh-Mae Lacey?

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 25/03/2019 14:25

mrsstephens89 - you obviously turn 30 this year - sadly, your reply doesn't match your age. Grow up woman.

I think Mae is a lovely name. I know someone who has given her DD three names, the first ones 2 syllables, then followed by Mae.

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/03/2019 14:51

Unfortunately this website is known for its brutal responses OP so canvassing for opinions for a double barrelled ‘younique’ spelling was probably always going to end badly.
Ivy is a lovely name however I echo all of the above responses and would opt for the traditional spelling if for no other reason other than you/she will spend the rest of your/her life correcting people and being met with a Hmm expression. Hyphenating it is your decision obviously, but it’s not generally very popular, however there is nothing wrong with it, it’s personal preference.
