I see that some mothers have buyers remorse when naming their child but the answer is to find a name you really like before getting pregnant. By the time the baby arrives you will be certain of the name you want.
I chose ELODIE because it is the most beautiful name and very rare in the UK.
Very few names come close but Felicity, Stephanie, Natalie and Vivienne are also beautiful and relatively uncommon namesake

I disagree about choosing a name before you’re even pregnant.
Obviously it’s fine to have preferences and preferred names but we’ve always waited to actually hold our kids and think what name (out of the ones we like) then decide which seems to ‘fit’ best.

KathyS901 · 25/03/2019 01:44

I don't think Elodie is rare in the UK is it? I know 3 under 3 in my town, and I have two pregnant friends who both have it on their lists. I also see it regularly on name boards?

I don't like Felicity and I think Stephanie and Natalie are both very 90s and dated now. Vivienne is cool though.

But regardless, I also disagree about having names picked before the baby is born. I had a totally different name planned for my son (which I had liked for years) and when I saw him I just knew it wasn't his name, and found the perfect one after meeting him. I've never regretted it for a second as it's very much HIS name and not just any old name I'd chosen for any potential child.

I think it's nice to have lists but I think your husband will have a say once you get pregnant!! And that changes everything.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 25/03/2019 02:19

I know some people want to hold the baby first and decide. Nothing wrong with that. My parents did that with me.

Personally, I have too much anxiety that I'll feel really out if it or that my husband will change his mind on names so I told my husband I wanted to pick out a name and stick to it during my pregnancy. We have been calling the baby its name already! I personally love it but respect people who want to wait to name a baby.

We chose my daughter's name whilst pregnant and stuck with it. We chose a name for my son whilst pregnant. We both loved it. For the first few days after his birth we called him this name and it just felt wrong and strange. It didn't suit him. We switched to our 2nd choice which really suits him. Sometimes you have to see the little one to be sure it's right.

HankyPanky04 · 25/03/2019 09:38

We chose all 4 kids names before birth and stuck to them. Their names are uncommon for their ages, only one is in the top 100.

MikeUniformMike · 25/03/2019 10:06

Elodie isn't rare in the UK. It's a name that has started to be used in the last few years. It's quite nice but sort of merges into all the El... names.
Your daughter could well be one of many Elodies in her school year.

I'm not keen on Felicity, as it seems too long and a bit fussy.
Stephanie and Natalie seem 1980s names.
Vivienne - it's ok but is said like Vivian or Vivvy-En?

Shookethtothecore · 25/03/2019 10:09

Yea I know 3 baby Elodie I’m afraid. Not a bad thing it’s just not rare

Nowthenforever2019 · 25/03/2019 10:11

Haha arrogant much OP? Lovely names aren't objective.

bridgetreilly · 25/03/2019 10:22

Personally I can't stand Elodie. I also think it's ridiculous to choose a name before you're even pregnant and incredibly patronising to come on a baby name forum and announce that you know better than everyone else.

ZebraKid71 · 25/03/2019 11:35

I know quite a few toddler elodies so definitely not what I would call rare. It also blends in to the hundreds of other El names.

Personally I would never choose a name before baby was born. We've had a short list of a least 3 and then decided once born and we've met them and we can see what suits. I think you're more likely to regret a name by settling before you have seen the baby and realising later that it just isn't right.

Ribbonsonabox · 25/03/2019 11:38

Doesnt your taste change over time though?
I thought my first was a girl initially and had my 'perfect' name decided on... turned out he was a boy.... but when I eventually had a girl I no longer liked my 'perfect'name for some reason and chose a different one!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 25/03/2019 11:40

gosh, I've gone through loads of favourite names over the years. On that basis DD would be called Hannah-Emily-Marianne!

Our final list bore no relation to any of my favourite names of former years.

alonerinlona · 25/03/2019 11:49

Haha if I had used the name I had chosen years ago for my DD I would have a teenager named Isis now 🤪🤪

Also, Élodie is indeed a beautiful name. But not uncommon at all.

I think the name Estée is among the most beautiful

I like French names!

(Though my French friends find a lot of my taste verrrrry dates)

alonerinlona · 25/03/2019 11:49

*dated.

Kokeshi123 · 25/03/2019 11:53

Elodie is a perfectly nice name, but if you chose it because you think it's unusual you might be disappointed. There are a lot of names starting in "El" around at the moment, and I think a lot of people will be choosing Elodie based on a sort of thought process that goes "I like Ellie and Elsie... but there are a lot of them... how about Elodie, to be a bit different?"

Nothing wrong with the name itself, though. And there is nothing wrong with having a popular name, particularly.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 25/03/2019 13:34

I also change my mind about names all the time. I used to love Kimberly but now I'm not so keen on it!

Saxonanglo · 25/03/2019 14:02

The point is that there isn’t a best girls name. It’s all a matter of opinion so you are all right.

That... is not what you said in your OP. At all.
