Simone Élodie

I love how it sounds and so does DP, not French but most certainly a Francophile. My only worry is that people will think she's of French descent when she isn't.

I think Elodie Simone works better. It doesn't flow the other way around.

Strawberry2017 · 23/03/2019 12:28

I agree it doesn't seem to flow right the way you have it x

Nnnnnineteen · 23/03/2019 12:33

But no-one uses middle names in normal daily life, so the child would just be Simone. Nothing overly French about that.

Topofthehills · 23/03/2019 12:35

I like it. I know people called Simone from all over Europe, so I don't think anyone would assume. Elodie is now common enough in the UK that I don't think many people would question it. (Especially if spelled without the acute accent - perfectly acceptable to forgo it on a capital letter in French, if I recall correctly.)

Overall, no stranger than calling your daughter Francesca Sofia without being Italian.

If you love it, go for it!

AFistfulofDolores1 · 23/03/2019 12:38

I think it flows far better this way round than Elodie Simone.

I think the names are beautiful, OP.

Needadoughnut · 23/03/2019 12:40

Because we'd like her "main" name to be Simone is that we've chosen them in that order. I go by my middle name (thanks mum!) And it has caused a lot of trouble later in life.

Very nice

Peachbubble · 23/03/2019 12:45

I like it

Needadoughnut · 23/03/2019 14:30

Thank you! It looks like it's a good idea then. A Google search shows that "Elodie Simone" is more common than the other way around so I think you're right about that.

I love the name Simone, go for it!
However, I don't think Élodie goes very well as a middle name.
The other thing is that the two names combined are very French so I wouldn't use both if neither of you are French.
Maybe use a more English middle name?

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 24/03/2019 00:32

I love Simone Elle or Simone Elise. But I'm not too keen on Elodie. It's just not my taste! But I say go for it if you love it! I wouldn't worry about the French thing. A lot of names are French or come from somewhere that has no relation to one's nationality these days! I read that people in Italy aren't using traditional Italian names much these days at all. So I think we are a world name melting pot.

Bumblebeesmum · 24/03/2019 00:40

I think Simone is lovely - Elodie isn’t my style but I wouldn’t think it was weird or meant she was French unless you had the accent on which would signal genuine heritage to me (wrongly or not)

MercyBodle · 24/03/2019 04:56

I love Simone Elodie - 2 beautiful names that sound good together. I'm in Australia and there are plenty of Simones and Elodies, but I don't know any of French background.

SwedishEdith · 24/03/2019 12:23

It'll be pronounced Si-moan though rather than Si-mon - which sounds English. And so what if people think she's of French descent?

daisypond · 24/03/2019 13:03

Simone is a lovely name. Elodie isn't my style but it's fine. But it shouldn't have the accent - not on a capital letter.

RoseMartha · 24/03/2019 17:41

I dont like either of them but if you like them go for it

Needadoughnut · 24/03/2019 19:28

I looked into accents on caps/,first letters and it looks like the académie Française says it should have it. I think I would pronounce Simone the English way.

NameChange30 · 24/03/2019 19:52

My autocorrect added the accent to Élodie but then I type in English and French so my autocorrect gets confused.

Strictly speaking first/capital letters should still have the accent but in everyday use the accent does get dropped.

NameChange30 · 24/03/2019 19:57

"I think I would pronounce Simone the English way."

What's "the English way"? Like Nina Simone ("si-moan")?

GirlGang89 · 24/03/2019 20:18

My daughter is Elodie (no accent) Eden - as soon as I heard it I wanted it for my daughter x

daisypond · 24/03/2019 20:30

Oh, OK, interesting re capital letters and accents. I was taught the opposite -but that was some time ago, I admit!

mrsgumpy · 26/03/2019 07:08

I love Simone
