Love the name, but apparently a lot of people automatically think of the cook when they first hear it. What do you think? Yay or Nay?

Also, I'm not sure if it's Dee-Lee-Ah or Dell-Lee-Ah. Any thoughts?Grin

I automatically think of Delia Smith but that might be my age. It's not a bad association though as I do like her Grin

I like the name and would pronounce it Dee-Lee-Ah.

paperandfireworks · 23/03/2019 06:07

I always think of footballers shouting "oooh ahhh de li ah" at the chef but Im not sure why

imsorryiasked · 23/03/2019 06:15

It's pronounced Dee Lee ah. I do think of the cook, but only because I don't know any others, its not a bad connection.
Don't love it, although it's much nicer than Delilah.
I think I'd probably prefer Amelia or Malia.

motortroll · 23/03/2019 06:38

I like it but I prefer Celia. It's a real babe, traditional but unusual. If you like it why not?

Pronounced Dee-Lee-ah

motortroll · 23/03/2019 06:38

*name not babe

stellarfox · 23/03/2019 07:35

I think of Delia Smith too but I think it’s nice. I would definitely use Cordelia with Delia as a nickname though!

Flamingosnbears · 23/03/2019 08:38

Celia is better

Mollie85 · 23/03/2019 11:09

I prefer Della as you’re asking for opinions, Delia does remind me of Smith and I’m 37

Mollie85 · 23/03/2019 11:09

Or Dahlia

aliceandkids77 · 23/03/2019 12:07

I associate it with a horrible person although I still think the name itself is pretty. I say Dee-Lee-Ah, although I am italian and they say Dell-ee-ah x

Orangeslemon24 · 23/03/2019 14:10

Horrible, sorry!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/03/2019 14:47

Awful, sounds frumpy and harsh.

SumAndSubstance · 23/03/2019 19:52

As a test, there’s been a Delia on. Master chef of late. She’s young and quite cool, but every time they say her name I think, eh? She can’t be called that! I can’t get past it being a middle aged name.

BlueMerchant · 23/03/2019 19:56

I don't like it one bit. I automatically think of Delia Smith too. I also think it's 'frumpy' and just not nice.

itsbritneybiatches · 23/03/2019 19:56

Love it.

ChaosMoon · 23/03/2019 20:16

Most beautiful name ever.

Loopytiles · 23/03/2019 20:18

Retro! Quite like.

MikeUniformMike · 23/03/2019 20:26

I like it. Know 2. Both say it Deel-ya.

ShabbyAbby · 23/03/2019 20:48

I like it.

But yes, to the chef association.

Expressedways · 23/03/2019 20:51

But retro and it does remind me of the cook. I’m 30 and Mum always used to get the Delia books out for dinner parties when I was younger. Maybe it’s about due for a comeback though?!

TurquoiseLagoon · 23/03/2019 20:54

I think of the cook
And I say it "deel-ya"

twattymctwatterson · 23/03/2019 20:57

I actually like it. Definitely wouldn't go with Dahlia because i instantly think of the Black Dahlia

NC4Now · 23/03/2019 20:59

My surname’s Smith, so....

formerbabe · 23/03/2019 21:00

It's awful, sorry. It's what my parents planned on calling me, until they changed their mind at the last minute. I'm forever grateful it's not my name.

queenqueenqueen · 23/03/2019 21:00

I think it's really nice actually, feminine and pretty sounding
Ignore the Delia Smith comments my DD is Cleo, I love it - perfect, quirky name for my feisty little lady but the amount of Renault comments 🙄🙄🙄🙄😴😴😴😴 GO FOR IT! XX
