Awful.

OutwithMyRemit · 18/03/2019 22:14

...Wan Kenobi

CoastalWave · 18/03/2019 22:14

Afraid I'm with the 'awful' crew.

And for Dr Candy, fairly sure Candy is short for Candice which isn't a chavvy name in the slightest..

Pick Adam, Andrew, David or Christopher. Can't go wrong with any of them!

Tillygetsit · 18/03/2019 22:53

Blimey the snobs are out tonight! 🙄

Myothercarisalsoshit · 18/03/2019 22:56

It's not snobby. I'm working class and very proud of it. A name like that is a disability.

sweetkitty · 18/03/2019 22:56

Sorry I meant we call Jacob Cobi as a nickname but I’ve heard a few American Cobis.

Kaboodler · 18/03/2019 23:29

Reminds me of Kobe Bryant. But to be honest OP MN is not going to give you favourable feedback on this name.

It's not even a name. Kobi, Kai, Kayden, Jayden ... put 'Doctor' before the name. Does it sound right? No?

So many Little Englanders on Mumsnet

Kescilly · 18/03/2019 23:37

I just googled “Dr Kai” and plenty of hits came up. It might not be a British name, but it’s a name. And clearly one that doesn’t cripple people.

I’m not familiar with the name Kobi but it sounds fine to me.

He does ok.

Applesbananaspears · 18/03/2019 23:43

Cobi / Coby is an Israeli name and there are many of them about and very much suitable for a dr.

Given there’s a dr Pixie on tv, regardless of her real name, I’m not too concerned about a Cobi

Kaboodler · 18/03/2019 23:43

Someone phone the authorities! There's a Dr Kobi at Oxford University, a Fellow in Mathematics. Formerly of MIT. He could have gone so much further if only he weren't a Kobi! Wink

I hate the MN chavvy thing "put a Dr. in front of it". I have what Mumsnet assures me is a super chavvy (American) name with a Dr in front of it. Hasn't hurt me yet.

There's also a ton of Elizabeth's and Sebastian's our there doing porn. It's a name.

BiltongBetty · 19/03/2019 04:01

“And for Dr Candy, fairly sure Candy is short for Candice which isn't a chavvy name in the slightest..“

Not if the certificate from an Oxbridge uni hanging in her office is anything to go by!

IdaIdes · 19/03/2019 05:06

It sounds like a dog name to me but it's fine.

notacooldad · 19/03/2019 08:25

Sometimes I think this topic is pointless when people ask what others think of names.
I think it is a good board for ideas but to ask out right for an opinion on a name is never a good idea here!!
I gave seen mine and my children's name over the years called posh and on another occasion chavvy!! Obviously people have different ideas on posh and chavvy!!!
Many names that are sneered at are quite common in other countries.
Posters say ' can you imagine a doctor , professor, whatever called ( for example) Wayne,,Troy, Mayson ( yes that spelling) or Darrell
My answer is yes I can. Our head of service is called Tyrone.(we are in the UK but his parents are from Australia) we have team leads with names that are deemed 'chavvy'

We have professionals in other teams who are quite young( mid to late 20s) and talented from Africa with names like Gilbert.
So when people are replying to baby name suggestions but are being sneery and wanting g to put the name down it just seems unkind and not looking at the bigger picture

Another poster said that Candy would have been short for Candice. Not necessarily true. There was a Candy in Ds1 class. She will be 23 now.

This sentence is a cracker A name like that is a disability what the hell is that about!!

NorthernRunner · 19/03/2019 08:50

I don’t agree with the line of argument, can you imagine a Dr or Barrister being called that...it’s just rude and snobby.
However we all have different tastes and that’s ok, I wouldn’t pick a modern name like Kobi because I like more old fashioned names like James and Percy.
You open a can of worms when you ask for opionions, of course someone will say something you don’t want to hear.

Moominfan · 19/03/2019 08:52

I love it but wasn't brave enough to use it myself. We're from a mixed race background and it would fit in just lovely. Don't think it goes down well with the Oliver/Oscar Mumsnet crowd

NabooThatsWho · 19/03/2019 08:59

No, just no. It's not even a name. Kobi, Kai, Kayden, Jayden ... put 'Doctor' before the name. Does it sound right? No? Then don't do it

Well you sound like a lovely person Hmm.
Some names really bring out the snobs on here.

MollyHuaCha · 19/03/2019 08:59

Kobi-Wan Kenobi is what springs to mind.

BuckingFrolics · 19/03/2019 09:08

You're having a dog?

notacooldad · 19/03/2019 09:09

No, just no. It's not even a name

To be honest, I love it. Used to know a lovely little boy called Kobi!
