Hello,

We are thinking George William(surname Ayres) we love this name and we believe giving your child a strong name is vital.

We aren't a fan of names that people have never heard of or that our child we constantly have to tell people how to spell/pronounce.

What do you think? Is it too boring or common?

Literally could not be any less inspired. As per pps....just give him a number

Vintagegirl77 · 18/03/2019 13:11

This is my son's name too. Very strong and manly name imo. He likes it too. We are not royalists and really don't care if people think we are. I love traditional boys names.

Jaz32 · 18/03/2019 14:04

Oh my god frogsareflyinginfromthewest - I would never have put that together.... kids are cruel but that has given me a chuckle!

ColeHawlins · 18/03/2019 14:05

Lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 18/03/2019 14:17

If you like it, go for it. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Sophronia · 18/03/2019 18:38

Lovely. It’s popular, but it’s a strong, classic name.

Notso · 18/03/2019 19:18

I don't think George and Ayres sound right together actually. William sounds better or any other of the train names, Thomas, James, Henry etc.

Hazlenutpie · 18/03/2019 19:21

I prefer William George.

PandaBlue · 18/03/2019 19:50

George is my toddler's name.

I had initially ruled it out for being top 10 and worried about being one of many in his class. I then realised top 10 names are popular for a reason, because they are nice!!

As it happens I've not met any other Georges locally, in baby groups etc. Even in a mum's Facebook group of over 300 with kids all born the same time there is only one other George.

I'm so pleased I didn't let the popularity put me off. Ok he may still end up being 1 of 5 in his class at school but it's unlikely and even if it is, so what.

MeowthThatsRight · 18/03/2019 19:53

Just call it Generic English Child.

allthingsred · 18/03/2019 19:56

Love the name George.
George Williams was founder of YMCA if your interested!

PandaBlue · 18/03/2019 19:59

Some people on here are pretty rude. Of course not everyone is going to like a name but no reason to be an arsehole when other people do.

BlueMerchant · 18/03/2019 20:02

It's a strong classic be name. Prefer William as the first name though.

sue51 · 18/03/2019 20:04

Both good names. I prefer it as George William.

MeowthThatsRight · 18/03/2019 20:05

I don’t think anyone’s being rude, just giving an opinion on a name. Which is what the op asked for.

PandaBlue · 18/03/2019 20:10

Just call it Generic English Child.

just give him a number

You might as well call him Baby#10976443.

These aren't opinions. They are rude. Would they say this to someone's face if they were called George?

AlocAcoc · 18/03/2019 20:20

Panda, I agree completely. A name doesn’t have to be ‘inspired’. I’d be pretty embarrassed if I had an extraordinary name. Give me a nice, sensible, traditional name any day.

2gorgeousboys · 18/03/2019 20:46

I love it as I have a George William (he also has a second middle name). We wanted a strong, classic name to match his brothers and his middle names are those of his grandfathers.

However he's a teenager and I didn't know any other George's at the time we chose his names. Not sure I'd choose that combination now!

Walnutwhipster · 18/03/2019 20:49

DS2 is George Edward, he's now a teenager. It's a good classic name that will never date.

MeowthThatsRight · 18/03/2019 20:52

Of course those things wouldn’t be said to a child ffs. But if you ask for opinions on a name that you have not yet decided on then people will give opinions. They may be opinions that you don’t like but op asked and was given what she asked for.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/03/2019 20:53

It’s not a name that will embarrass him that’s for sure. I’ve never liked George though, much prefer William.

Ottessa · 18/03/2019 23:17

No one’s saying them to an actual child, or to a person introducing you to their actual baby with those names. But the OP has come on an anonymous forum for a reason, and has specifically asked if the name is boring.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/03/2019 02:38

I forgot that the OP asked if it was boring.

Sorry, but I think George is incredibly boring. I've also changed my mind on William with your surname after one of the comments above!

But at the end of the day, if you like George then go for it.

Wards · 19/03/2019 02:42

My brothers name! I love it as it's a classic.

Sessy19 · 19/03/2019 07:17

The OP knows this is a boring name, she’s asked for confirmation. How people answer her original question is a matter of interpretation and free speech. If she wanted less honest and frank responses, she’d ask her friends and family.
