Oakley? Too “unusual”?

LaceyB1995 · 17/03/2019 18:31

We’ve chosen our baby boys name, we always wanted something unusual but not weird.

One of my friends has said it’s too unusual and American (even though it’s an old English name). Now I’m slightly second guessing whether it is out-there and not just unusual?

What’s everyone’s opinions on Oakley? Smile

I haven’t come across it. My first thought was the phrase from one of the Simpsons character Okely Dokely.

LaceyB1995 · 17/03/2019 18:51

I think we’re going to stick with it, we love it and havent heard of any where I’m from Smile at least we’re prepared for sunglasses comparisons now haha

Sunglasses.

Fraula · 17/03/2019 18:52

Love it.

tangerine23 · 17/03/2019 18:53

It reminds me of an outdoorsy skater/surfer. Sunglasses definitely come to mind. But I do really like it!

Obsidian77 · 17/03/2019 18:54

As long as you don't mind having to say "yes, like the sunglasses"
It's a handsome and distinctive name, if you love it then choosing something you don't love won't feel right.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 17/03/2019 18:54

Sunglasses for me, they are a huge brand.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 18:58

Its really popular as a girl's name in America.

I like it better as a boy name. I like the nickname Oak. But I'm American so I'm used to this sort of name trend! I mean I'm naming my daughter Harlow!

Oakley is also a sunglasses brand so I personally dont know that I can get past that association. Reminds me of my brother's sunglasses. Hes like obsessed with Oakley glasses. But it is trending here in the states but for girls.

HopeClearwater · 17/03/2019 19:05

I think it’s lovely, but then I know one and he’s one of the nicest kids ever!

CountessVonBoobs · 17/03/2019 19:08

I think overpriced sunglasses and nothing else. Sorry.

It isn't an English first name.

MummytoCSJH · 17/03/2019 19:15

I'm sorry but I think it's ridiculous. I could see it as a surname but absolutely not as a first name. Please rethink!

gnomeisland · 17/03/2019 19:23

It's the name of the village my Bil lives in.
Just don't move to west Buckinghamshire

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/03/2019 19:25

I like it 🙂

kaytee87 · 17/03/2019 19:49

Daft tbh

AWishForWingsThatWork · 17/03/2019 19:52

I love it; it was on my shortlist.

borntobequiet · 17/03/2019 19:52

Rayban is better, nn Ray.

AiryFairy1 · 17/03/2019 19:57

Isn’t it the talking tree in Everything’s Rosie?!

Groovee · 17/03/2019 20:13

It's been the surname of a number of children I have worked with.

EveryoneFreeze · 17/03/2019 20:27

A bit too try hard.

Icklepup · 17/03/2019 20:31

It's in the same category as Jayden etc. for me... Dislike it a lot.

NicoAndTheNiners · 17/03/2019 20:33

I know 2 dogs called Oakley.

RoseMartha · 17/03/2019 20:36

It is ok and better for a boy than a girl. Have heard it as girl name too.

Heratnumber7 · 17/03/2019 20:36

Oakley dokely. So No.

DragonMamma · 17/03/2019 20:36

I know one and most people raise eyebrows when they hear of it - they automatically think of the big old wrap around sunglasses 😎

Giraffle · 17/03/2019 20:40
