Annabelle and Isabella

My name is Annabelle, do you think I could get away with naming our daughter Isabella/Isabelle or is it too similar? Really struggling for girls names that my husband and I agree on.

I think for siblings it would be too similar but for mother/daughter it's fine.

SadieContrary · 17/03/2019 08:49

I agree with above 👍🏼

AnnabelleCos · 17/03/2019 08:54

Thank you. I already have a son called Arthur and I think Arthur and Isabella goes quite nicely!

It does ! It’s beautiful

daisypond · 17/03/2019 10:01

I think it’s fine too

Litttlepinkegg · 17/03/2019 10:03

Isabella is fine and sounds lovely with Arthur

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/03/2019 15:21

Lovely all round OP.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 17/03/2019 15:22

another Isabelle/Isobella. It's enormously popular and very similar to your own name, i'd look for another name.

AnnabelleCos · 17/03/2019 16:01

Is it popular in the UK because I don't know of any?

I think it's fine! Lovely name.
When I come to think of it my friends with daughters have mostly named them with quite similar names to their own!
I know a Meave with a Neve and a Sally with a Hayley, and an Elizabeth with a Lizzie!!

Ribbonsonabox · 17/03/2019 16:09

It is very popular in the UK... might depend on your area but I know an Isobel, an Arrabella and an Isobella all in my sons nursery.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 16:11

I think it's fine! My name rhymes with my mom's and it's a little annoying at times but no one really notices. I think that you're doing Isabella and not Isabelle adds some distinction at well.

IVflytrap · 17/03/2019 18:33

I don't think it's too bad, although I admit I do find it a little bit odd when parents name their children similar (or even the same) names as themselves. I think Isabella would be the better choice, as the ending isn't identical to yours, so it's less obvious.

Is it popular in the UK because I don't know of any?

Yes, it is incredibly popular. I know quite a few. In fact, using the most recent UK baby name stats (for 2017), if you added all the variations together (Isobel through to Isabella and all varieties in between) it would be the number 1 most popular girls name, more popular than Olivia by a fair bit. Isabella on its own is number 6 on the list.

However, ultimately, if you love it that much, don't let the popularity stand in your way.

Nonameyet1 · 17/03/2019 18:50

I think they are too similar personally. All lovely names though.

iVampire · 17/03/2019 18:54

It was very frequently used from about 2005-10. Not so much now (other names considerably more popular) so I think you’re OK on that score

H0wt0kn0w · 17/03/2019 18:57

No. What about Isolde or Isadora

Ohyesiam · 17/03/2019 19:05

My daughter is doing stats in maths and whole school survey was done of first names for data( with consent obvs)I loved it and was pouring over it.
I can report that In a school of 2300 + kids, less than 1% are Isabel/ Isobel/ Isabella. ( just don’t go for Kaitlyn or MadisonWink)

Jaz32 · 18/03/2019 10:22

It's too similar for me. But I guess it also depends on do you go by your full name or Anna/Annie/Belle etc and do you intend for your daughter to go by the full name or Izzy/Bella etc - if you go by Anna and her Izzy then that would be fine, but not if you both end up Belle/Bella!
