Luca, Luka or Lucca?

How would you spell it?

I like C, DH likes K, we are thinking CC spelling as a compromise.

Thoughts? Is it a nice name?

Cc spelling would be luck-a?

Cheerybigbottom · 16/03/2019 07:46

One c, Luca. As pp said Lucca would be lucka

Thunderpunt · 16/03/2019 07:46

Double cc is the city, Lucca, so personally I wouldn't. The Italian spelling is one c. I believe with a K is often an Eastern European spelling of the same name.

user1474894224 · 16/03/2019 07:47

I didn't know it was ever spelt anything other than Luca. But we have Italian family and I always associate it with them.

FamilyOfAliens · 16/03/2019 07:48

Rhyming with yukka, as in the plant?

It’s a no from me.

Spudlet · 16/03/2019 07:52

One c for me as well. The double c is the city to me (and it's lovely, go, it's great).

I speak Italian so that's probably why the single c spelling looks right to me!

PlasticPatty · 16/03/2019 07:53

For heaven's sake, no. Not any of those.

IrishCypriot · 16/03/2019 07:55

Oh! Never even considered the ucka sound! Ew, don't like it anymore.

@PlasticPatty the name is already picked, I'm asking for opinions on the spelling. Thanks though. Why don't you like it?

I would go with Luca especially if you're of Italian heritage and Luka if you have more east European heritage. Definitely not Lucca because it is an Italian city and you then enter into Brooklyn Beckham territory and people might think that's where your son was conceived. Which ia fine if that's what you're going for but i suspect not.

IceRebel · 16/03/2019 07:58

For heaven's sake, no. Not any of those.

Did you post on the wrong thread Patty?

I can't see anything wrong with the name Luca Confused

bossyboo · 16/03/2019 08:02

Definitely Luca for me . Others just look wrong but I don't know why

MummaGiles · 16/03/2019 08:04

Definitely Luca

TheVanguardSix · 16/03/2019 08:13

Double C is not a name.

K is not cool or edgy, it’s the Balkan spelling. My son has the Eastern European spelling of a popular name because that’s who we are. For us, it’s the usual spelling.

I’d go with the more familiar Luca.

Roomchanging · 16/03/2019 08:28

We have a Luca. It gets written as Luka and Lucca by others. Nobody has ever pronounced it like the plant (it’s pronounced Loo-ca) It’s actually quite common-we almost always meet another one when we are out. We’ve yet to meet another child with DDs name which was very common in the 90s.

RayaJambalaya · 16/03/2019 08:45

Don't understand how Lucca is a compromise for you each wanting a c or a k. I would have though you'd have cone for Lucka. Which isn't great either. Don't mind Luka but I've seen it spelt Luca mostly.

jiggsymalone · 16/03/2019 08:58

I was also go with the spelling based on your heritage- Luca if you're Italian or Luka if Eastern European heritage.

happytobemrsg · 16/03/2019 08:59

Definitely Luca

Arowana · 16/03/2019 09:01

Definitely Luca

TheFrogsLegs · 16/03/2019 09:02

Luca

Wolfiefan · 16/03/2019 09:05

I agree with jiggsy.

peasando · 16/03/2019 10:01

Luca. Although have you thought about Lucas? I always think Luca is a bit odd if you have no Italian connection, but that's just me so just ignore me

IrishCypriot · 16/03/2019 10:33

Thanks all.

I have explained the K spelling and that we don't have connections so to me it seems weird. I knew some Lukas' at school from Germany and Hungary.

We both actually prefer Lucas, but unfortunately that name has already been taken in our family and although it's a loose connection, it will get mentioned and we don't want that. Consequently, we've actually fallen more in love with Luca - well, I have at least.

Not Italian heritage but Greek, so i figured Louca isn't too far off Luca. Really not keen on the Greek spelling for some reason

Luca

lljkk · 16/03/2019 12:34

For whatever reasons you think Lucas is out, then Luca should be out too. There's no difference in those names (imho).
I find Luke fine but I can't warm to Luc(c)/ka or Lucas.

Shadow1234 · 16/03/2019 12:50

Luca
