Brunette baby, Larissa?

I have gone off the name Seraphina as I think it is far too long and my relatives don't like it as much as I do. Any thoughts on Larissa? Also, do you think this is a suitable name for a baby with an olive/Mediterranean complexion and brunette hair? Lara is also an option or Kyra, which a greek name I have been considering for a while...

I like Kyra and Alyssa

Pommes · 15/03/2019 13:45

Sounds daft but I always worry about 'ss' names in case the child has a lisp.
Lara is a beautiful name.

I do like Kyra and Lara a lot, they are simple and easily fit to any personality i think.. but then Larissa seems interesting and uncommon as well.. 🙁 so confused!

I really like Larissa , I think it would suit the baby you describe with brunette hair and olive skin definitely. I know one Larissa, it gets shortened to Larry if that bothers you. I think it's pretty cool my self . I know a Parissa if that's any use 😂 think she's from a Spanish family

Also really like Lara .

chiarazuri · 15/03/2019 13:52

Regina, that's reassuring! I was considering Parissa but I don't like the possibility of the nickname Paris!

Yes that's true I don't like Paris either . I do prefer Larissa to Parissa too.

Antonin · 15/03/2019 14:47

What about Carissa? I think that sounds even nicer

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 15/03/2019 14:53

In Russia, Lara is the short form of Larissa (thanks Wikipedia) So you could go Larissa with Lara as shortened.

chiarazuri · 15/03/2019 20:23

Thank you for the suggestions so far!

I think there's a city in Greece called Larissa - so yes I would say goes well with olive skin etc.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/03/2019 20:28

Greeks pronounce it LArissa
rather than laRISSa if that makes sense?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/03/2019 20:30

Alyssa is also nice
And Nefeli.

daisypond · 15/03/2019 20:31

Larissa is really lovely- traditional Russian name with Lara for short. There’s often strong links between Russian and Greek names as well so it might be an old Greek name too.

jellymaker · 15/03/2019 20:33

I love Larissa and Clarissa

PBobs · 15/03/2019 23:39

These days it's a place in Greece (actually means citadel) when you put the emphasis on the a. LArissa. There was also a nymph in Ancient Greece - pronounced LArissa. It's originally an ancient Greek name but we wouldn't use it as a name now. I assume in English emphasis goes on the i? LarIssa?

AlliKaneErikson · 16/03/2019 02:05

My dd (Lara) is going through a phase of wanting to be called Larissa! It’s nice, but I prefer just Lara.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 16/03/2019 02:09

I don’t get this? Why does the hair colour matter? My Greek friend is Larissa.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/03/2019 09:09

Seraphina is so much nicer than Larissa imo.

chiarazuri · 18/03/2019 09:23

Thank you everyone for your advice! :)
